Microsoft is killing WordPad in Windows after 28 years::Microsoft announced today that it will deprecate WordPad with a future Windows update as it’s no longer under active development, though the company did not specify the precise timing of this change.
Notepad = good.
WordPad = people randomly using it to open Word documents, breaking the document and calling me because the PC I built them five years ago is “destroying their documents”
“I’ve been given an RTF, because these are still somehow a thing, better open in WordPad”
How else am I going to get proper carriage return output?
Coincidentally, the last time I opened WordPad was probably 28 years ago.
What was its purpose even
It’s notepad for the insane people who need to see their text in comic sans.
I used WordPad back in the Windows 95 days, then never again.
As long as Notepad doesn’t go away though, I’m good. I use that all the time.
Notepad++ is a great upgrade to notepad, especially if you are a programmer. It allows regex expressions, language markup, and much much more.
Not a problem. Notepad works great as scrap paper. Notepad++ for everything else. I don’t think I’ve used wordpad in over a decade.
Used it maybe a dozen times in the past 20 years.
Oh no. Anyway.

Wait, why was it still around to begin with?
Notepad good, wordpad bad.
The only time I ever used wordpad was accidentally opening a docx on a PC without word on it and closing it immediately.
Good. I’m sick of dealing with lousy Windows admins using it and breaking files as a result. There are plenty of good and free word processors.
