Fun fact two: Kid ultimately got another hat from the tennis player after the case got blown up and the player contacted him.

It’s also heavily implied the player knows the rich asshole, since the asshole funds part of the tournament. Meaning he could have gotten a signed hat at any moment but decided he wanted to steal one from a child instead. He then doubles down and laughs at the kid and everyone else calling them losers while threatening legal action against anyone who calls him out. I heard he has now contacted the player to get a hold of the kid to “make it right” so it sounds like his company is now holding his feet to the fire.

Look at the kid’s face when he takes it. He’s heartbroken, says ‘no!’ and nearly starts crying. He spends the rest of the video trying to get the player to sign his ball instead. The pass-off of the pen appeared to be because pens for signing were being passed down – it wasn’t his pen. The boy not only didn’t get the hat, but his ball wasn’t signed (which appears to have been what he was waiting for, and the hat was meant to take the place of his ball being signed).
And even if it was his son (which it doesn’t seem to be), this is still arsehole behaviour – lean in and share the moment, don’t take it from him like this.
e: and if it truly was his son, that’s even more sad, because that means dad is acting like I’d expect a rude stranger to act.

Look around at the other people in the audience - others are holding sharpies. They probably brought their own in anticipation/hope of getting signatures. (I've done the same thing at concerts.)
We didn't see before this clip, it's possible the kid handed the player his own sharpie when asking for a signature. That would mean that when the kid is handed the sharpie at the end, it's being given back to its original owner.
