It's weird in any case, the boy looks like a younger version, not an older version. And a time machine doesn't fix the dread of death, it's not a "make you younger" machine so time travel wont fix that.
She also seems to convey that she doesn't have those feeling in present time, so whatever resolution happened would have been between her past self and her current self, so her future self to come to say that it went away with the time machine is confusing, since that would imply that current self also has those feelings, which I read as if she implied she didn't.
So yeah, if not for the arrows I'd have thought they were their past selves since to me it makes more sense.
