I'm smoking weed about it.

  • I was debating whether or not I should even post this because it looks so sad, but decided that if I get good feedback then it’s worth the embarrassment.

Why be embarrassed? Caring about your plants is a good thing.

Any ideas what the heck is wrong with this? I just moved it to the ground, where I have really good soil, so I’m hoping it recovers on its own

Walk back this plant's history in your head and you'll find your answers. When did it start looking sad? What were the variables like? How did the condition progress? Now that you're seeing improvements follow the same line of investigation- What happened that allowed improvement? What variables changed from where it was to where it is now? You say you moved it to a spot with good soil, was it in poor quality soil before? Not enough nutrients, poor drainage, etc etc? There are almost always clues leading up to disaster. Listen to what she's telling you before she has to shout! 💚

  • If it makes you happy who cares what the peanut gallery has to say. You could always dig them up and replant them to get a head start on this year.

  • I knew this was going to be you before I looked at the name lmao

  • The message does not self delete.

What people are seeing is the action of admins to remove the content from your inboxes. A recent Lemmy update provides admins the ability to ban users and remove their content including DMs. The quicker instances are banning the spam accounts very rapidly, some even with automation. The best thing you can do if you receive spam is to report it so your admins can act.

Editing to add- The most recent build 0.19.11 also removes images sent in DMs on the webui. Apps and cached files may still show the images to some users.

  • It gets caught in the net of their attempt to block the spam.

  • 100% there are people creating an unhealthy obsession with her and this community is feeding it. She will have negative consequences due to this.

And that may have been the harasser's goal all along. It's no secret the internet is full of misguided investigators and people who don't realize how their curiosity can be harmful to others.

Hopefully "Nicole" isn't being subjected to other forms of harassment too.

  • Thanks for all you and the team do for Lemmy. We've updated and everything looks good.

  • That's fine, but removing downvoting doesn't prevent the discussion. It curbs drive-by negativity which is a good thing IMO.

Obviously everyone is free to disagree with things. It should be more than absentmindedly hitting a down arrow though. Others obviously feel differently. Thankfully both exist on Lemmy.

  • That would be a useful feature. Maybe something to roll out alongside private communities and things coming in the future.

  • Not with downvotes disabled 😉

  • Being able to disable downvoting is one of the best features Lemmy has and I wish more instances would do it.

Voting here doesn't influence your feed and downvoting largely serves to spread negativity. Turning it off has a negligible impact on usability and an undeniable advantage when people decide their feelings matter more than someone else's, like whatever this is.

We've de-federated from both the instances being used for manipulative voting.

  • There are a few different ways to address the spam but none of them are perfect and all of them require intervention from your instance admin. The best course of action is to bring the spam to their attention by reporting the DMs. You may even want to contact your admin directly to ask them to take action.

  • Awesome mate. Glad you found something you feel comfortable helping with!

  • That's why I suggested asking others to adopt some of the slower communities that are already out there. 😉

There's bound to be others who are interested, you've already gotten a few bites with this post.

  • Anything that isn't in the current mainstream tends to be in short supply on Lemmy. People haven't gotten used to the idea that other people aren't already running those communities for them. I think they're still working up the bravery to be more active/figuring out the platform and if it's worth the effort.

As others suggested you could start some communities up yourself. Maybe another option is digging up some of the dead communities and making a post asking others if they're interested in taking them over? That's worked for a couple communities in the past.

  • Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
