  • One of them has an explosive cyanide capsule inserted rectally, the other has 400 of them surgically inserted in his cranium. No word on which is which.

  • I can only speak to personal experience in the USA, but the post covid years have drastically accelerated things in my part of the world. Every "public" service seems to be gimped these days. I could try to write a brief summary of the highlights and it would still be a wall of text. DMV, is fucked. Social security office, is fucked. Post office, is fucked. Court house, is fucked. School system, it's fucked. It's all fucked. What are we even paying taxes for and why do they seem to be going up?

The worst part is, this whole charade has bled over into the private sector as well. Try to go to the doctor, it's fucked. Go to the hospital, it's fucked. Try to buy groceries, it's fucked. Go get your car fixed, it's fucked. It's all fucked. Why is the cost of everything going up so much when almost everything is getting more and more fucked?

Anyway, I know this sounds pessimistic, and there probably are exceptions of things that are getting better or at least are maintaining. It's just hard to see this all going anywhere but down, that's the problem. Almost everybody I know is worried about layoffs at work, but at the same time, we're all stressed because we've got too much on our plates trying to do the job of 2 or 3+ people for pay that certainly does not reflect the effort. Makes you wonder how this doesn't all fall apart immediately.

And fuck. I've skipped over all the details, yet still ended up with a wall of text.

  • One of my older Reddit accounts was blocked on several top subs for abusing the report button.

One of those super mods posted a photo of someone endangering their pet on multiple subs. The content was literally against site-wide rules but also broke sub-level rules on each of the subs it was posted. I reported the photo on each sub it was posted to separately. Unbeknownst to me at the time, that super mod was a mod of every single one of those subs. So, they had the ability to ban/block me on each one for "abuse".

  • Oh, you must've had a medical emergency in the USA and now all the bills have arrived.

  • I might have to consider it. On the one hand, I did get to a point in Hollow Knight where I just wasn't enjoying it anymore so I never finished it. But at $20 for a brand new game, I'll consider it. Unfortunately I have a backlog right now, but overall things just aren't working out for me and my gaming time.

  • Welcome!

Just going to be honest: You can tell the truth here. You don't have to be deceptive about why your reddit account was "cancelled". Nobody cares. Obviously it wasn't just because you said something negative about Trump.

  • While it sounds great in practice, I find it suspicious that they never mention the the final bill.

  • If you're going to name your dog Muffin, you should consider bringing balance to the force and upgrade to Muffins instead.

    Muffins =<~~>= Sniffum.

  • I have been waiting so long, so so long, for this movie.

I know it's going to be nothing like the 80s movies that I grew up watching. But sometimes a love note to a former lover is just so cathartic. Which I guess is the best I can hope for this. If it sucks, well, honestly so did the original movies on a strictly objective measure. If it's great, then even better.

  • Getting vaccinated for COVID last year was such a ridiculous experience for me. I think it took like 4 attempts.

First time I tried, there was a shortage and I was told it wasn't available in our area. Second time I went to a walk-in place, and they turned me away because it was going to be about an hour wait and they'd be closed by then. Third time, I got turned away because I said said "kind of" when they asked me if I'd been around anybody in the past two weeks who tested positive, even though I explained that it was a brief outdoor exchange of hellos from a distance and the neighbor didn't test positive until a couple days later.

I ended up getting it at Walmart of all places, and they didn't even ask any of those qualifying questions (i.e. exposure in the past 2 weeks). They just wanted to know my insurance info and which arm to give the shot in.

Now that I'm a caretaker for a medically fragile adult who has never fully recovered from their prior COVID infection, I'm hoping that my situation is covered. But if not, I've already been trained on what to say to "qualify".

  • Oh, nice! They found a new contender for the least corrupt and criminal Republican in government in the USA.

  • I figured out the issue at least a decade ago. The problem is all the damned skinks we have now.

  • I will be honest with you, in the USA "back in the day" it was a lot more than just conservatives who were opposed. And, it was an order of magnitude more people who would have been completely okay with things if it had never become legally recognized.

It was very common to hear people who were otherwise completely okay with gay people and who treated LGBT+ folks well say things like "why do they need to get married" or "I think they should be able to get civil unions but marriage is between a man and a woman" or all manners of other arguments for why. And let's not forget that the current situation with legally recognized same-sex marriage was not due to the will of the majority of the voting public. It was via the courts.

While I appreciate the allies and all the people who aren't / weren't out there actively opposing gay marriage in the USA, and I completely acknowledge that lots of people have probably changed their stance on the issue in the ensuing decade+, I'm not going to fool myself into believing it was only conservatives who needed to hear the message in this meme.

  • I was going to say the same thing. Learn from my parents (and me). These do not make great pets for kids, assuming you love your kids and your kids love their fingers.

  • I was really surprised to learn that the fairly new hospital that was built in my parents' home town is on the list of most likely to close in my home state due to medicaid cuts. It was just completed maybe 10 - 12 years ago, I think. The bulk of people in its service area will face an additional 20+ minute ambulance ride to the next closest hospital if it closes.

I'll give you 3 guesses which party that county voted for pretty much straight ticket.

"Our lives were so much better when Trump was president" is what I heard back in 2024.

  • I like Linux, use(d) various flavors of it, and have had experience with / exposure to it for over 20 years. But no, I've never had a remotely flawless experience with it on a desktop or laptop environment. Wish I could offer more help or encouragement, but figured I'd at least chime in with some emotional support by affirming that you are not alone in that experience.

I would recommend Linux to technologically adept people (ex: tech professionals, computer science students) and only indirectly to less technically proficient people in the form of suggesting something like a Steam Deck for portable PC gaming to someone who might be interested.

But for an aging parent or my best friend's kids? No. Sometimes I already feel like I'm a free on-call 24/7 IT support tech for friends and family, and that's with mostly Windows and Android devices that pretty much just work the way folks expect (even if that way is broken/crumby/irritating/etc).

  • FUCK.

Normally, I'm a measured man, save some for later I tell myself. There's always more listeria and if I had a dime for every salmonella salad recall I'd be able to afford eggs and coffee right now. But this time, this time seemed different. Radioactive Walmart shrimp. Surely, this was going to be a one time thing. Time to open the hatch, I thought. Drop all my jokes at once, get them out while they're still fresh. Last thing you want is rotten radioactive shrimp jokes, you'll never escape the stink of that, might as well delete your account and start over at that point.

So, I blew my load the first round. Spent all my jokes on the radioactive Great Value shrimp from Walmart like a fool. And now I got nothing new. Just recycled radioactive shrimp jokes. And some kind of weird lump in my throat. Too bad I can't afford to have a doctor check that out.

  • I'll take the down votes and hate replies for my opinion, but on an entirely superficial level, his appearance has always creeped me out. Obviously he's got an amazing Hollywood perfect physique, but it's like so perfect that it just goes the other direction and becomes off putting?

Granted, it's perfect for this role from what I've seen so far, so maybe that's also part of why it's so perfect?

  • Everybody has been in a situation where it was hard to open up, it's no big dill.
