  • So easy to say, but then there's going to be some "smart" people going there believing Reddit is more "intelligent" than Facebook, because the supposedly "intelligent" young people (actually upper-middle class scared of the poor) hate the rest of my country for being "ignorant" and "degenerate".

  • Also known as profiling.

  • Where I am and due to its greater practicality, nursing is more popular as a college course than compsci.

I once started as compsci, but instead got a job fixing PCs. Also self-learned basic carpentry and plumbing. Looking at raising livestock in the near future.

  • They've been playing the very long game of trying to control human behavior for centuries, not just decades. The one thing to note is that the United States began as a bunch of colonies run by ministers, and the fundies want to go back to that theocratic form of rule. That by the 19th century the temperance movement came from the dozens of Christian subsects. Yeah, they also extended it to anything that did not define as "Christian" behavior, including choice of ideologies (socialism = bad), gender (male or female = good), source of knowledge (Bible > science), beliefs (they have veiled Islamophobia), and even eating and sexual habits.

Now -- based on their basic blueprint -- they want to artificially induce the Second Coming by trying to get their fucking project off the ground, and impose control on everyone else.

BTW, any collapse or devolution of the United States and the Western world would come off as a wonderful realization for Putin, Dugin, Kyrill, and their cronies. That Jesus himself in his actual Middle Eastern appearance and acts of progressivism would be considered an enemy by fundies expecting a "whitened" Jesus.

  • How do investors keep falling for this shit.

The ROI and the supposed savings from getting rid of the human side of technical support but also efforts of human creatives.

  • I used to love Reddit.

I was never invested in it, but then Facebook was overrun by right-wing nutcases so forcing me to take refuge.

Even before I got banned for criticizing spez' idols, already the country sub where I once hanged around was getting filled with doomers, supposedly smart young people but being assholes to anyone lower than them.

Why? Why does this make sense to them? Who are they serving ads to?

The major subreddits -- the ones frequently visible on r/all -- are filled with bots now powered by the same AI which the techbros are throwing money into, and then use all that information to simulate online human behavior and content. Already Xitter is also plagued by this AI morass, many of them with Arabic or Indian names.

Matter of time before they start reinstating previously banned political subreddits, and let the fucking Kluxers march in.

  • It used to be a good system until spez realised the importance of engagement in social media, and then karma became a dopamine-inducing instrument to keep users on the site.

Of course that's what sells -- being engaged as much as playing an MMORPG.

That given enough karma, the account can then be sold to anyone with money.

  • progressive

Was, before Schwartz died. That the more politicized popular subreddits (as opposed to niche hobby subs) are specifically targeted for being filled with right-leaning content.

  • A platform for people in developing countries, however. In some cases it supplants most if not all of the functions of what used to be several programs for Internet access and communication.

I mentioned Facebook because I'm seeing some people trying to share information how to grift with AI.

  • He is, just that he made ultraconservative statements in his own website, but deleted them later and disabled the site from being archived.

  • Not just a thief, the bastard thinks he's better than the entirety of Bethesda.

    1. It's theft to digital artisans, as AI-generated works tend to derive heavily without even due credit.
    2. It further discourages what's called critical thinking.
    3. It's putting even technically competent people out of work.
    4. It's grift for and by techbros.
  • I like the lemmy mindset far more than reddit

    ...and Facebook.

  • Not just mods but also other fanworks -- such as fanfiction, fanart, etc. -- in that creatives will go to great lengths to protect their work, and start huge flamewars, despite being obviously derivative reinterpretation of the original.

  • Another fucking asshole.

  • Ever since he got control of the patch, it made him kind of "authoritative", even looking pretty in the eyes of Bethesda 'cause he thinks himself as more "loremonger" than the loremakers, but really flipped his lid upon seeing Obama won.

    Also clearly a narcissist.

  • Thanks for the heads-up.

  • Dickshit MAGAt cowboy cartoonist think NYC is still in the 1970s.

    He can go fuck himself.

  • I doubt the authenticity of that supposed reward, but Reddit doesn't want anything that bunches up the panties of its shareholders and fascist sponsors, so it permabans specific users with "violent" language.
