  • Bear Gulch is in Washington.

  • They want Washington to burn down. So when they want to perform their Gestapo arrests, stopping firefighters fighting an active fire is just a bonus.

  • I read that autistic people are almost exclusively left leaning voters who are naturally resistant to propaganda and authority figures. It's not just that we're a conveniently sized minority group to target (Nazi style), but we're also an obstacle (and an extremely convenient scapegoat) just because of the way we are.

I'm also very prone to catastrophic over-thinking, so I'm hesitant to believe they're planning on killing us. But despite what I might tell myself to make this easier, it's painfully obvious what's happening.

  • I hope you're right. Trying to live through the complete collapse of American society won't exactly be pleasant, but it's better than dying in a concentration camp.

As soon as I saw RFK's "speech" about his autistic person database, hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I haven't felt safe since. I have an autism diagnosis from a doctor which I used to apply for federal disability a few years ago. I am absolutely on their list.

  • Well, this is... wildly disturbing. Is this leading to the American Holocaust? Or am I just being catastrophic again? I had the same thought when they started their database of autistic people.

  • People are sensitive about this. I didn't think our opinions were controversial but you got a downvote within a few minutes of leaving your comment. That was fast.

We're not even criticizing it, just saying it's not for us. I was born in 85 and used computers in the computer lab at school in the 90s that were too old to even have mice, they were keyboard only. We played educational games on them like Oregon Trail and lots of math games. These graphics remind me of those. I'm just not interested in going back that far.

  • The graphics are too primitive for me, which is a shame. I don't consider myself a graphics snob, but this looks like something that came out 35 years ago.

  • Maybe I'm the problem for clicking on a post about a game I haven't played yet, but also maybe if you include a major spoiler as your second sentence, your first sentence should mention the incoming spoiler.

    Just a suggestion.

  • Yes! It always does the loading spin animation for like 10 seconds before it shows me my downloaded album. And some albums just never work at all. I have to go online and then offline again just to make it work at all, which defeats the purpose of being offline in the first place.

I just started my free qobuz trial though, and canceled my Spotify account. I mentioned their CEO as the reason I canceled.

  • The offline features on Spotify are abysmal. Half my downloaded albums don't even work. It's the primary reason I'm looking for an alternative. How can an app with such a high market share be this shitty?

  • That's what I'm used to. The way it used to be I made sure I didn't go into the theater before the time the movie was scheduled to start because that meant watching commercials. I tried that same tactic recently and had to watch almost 20 minutes of commercials before the trailers even started.

The enshitification in late stage capitalism is such a mess.

  • It's mostly commercials. And these commercials aren't made specifically for theaters either, they're the same crap they show on TV. Commercials are a deal breaker for me, so I just don't go to theaters anymore.

  • Minimum 25 minutes where I live.

  • What makes this even more obscene is that National Forests and parks make a profit even though they are services and aren't supposed to. They're taking the profits that these collect and giving them to billionaires.

  • It probably was an .ml comm, yeah. This was when I was just starting out on Lemmy and was actually excited to talk to the "leftists" on the communist comms. I was hopelessly naive.

  • Fuck. I used it for the first time last year and it was incredibly easy. Now I have to go back to being charged by TurboTax for something that should be automatic and free.

  • I actually agree. I've always considered her to be a progressive (or at least what's considered progressive in the United States), but the last time I brought her up on Lemmy I got jumped on and told she's a liberal.

I love those clips of her when she was grilling CEOs as member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. She has fantastic "get to the point and don't fuck around" energy which is desperately needed in US politics.

  • I really like Porter. I've seen leftists label her a liberal, but her time in Washington showed that she cares about the working class, so even if she's more of a centrist than a lot of us would like, she's still an improvement.

  • Fair enough. It's a fun movie with an excellent cast, but the capitalist edge leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Even Dennis Nedry in the book was an overworked, disgruntled employee who was partially a victim of capitalism himself. In the movie he mostly comes off as a greedy criminal. Although they did mention his "financial problems" in the movie.

It's been years since I've read the book, maybe I need to reread it. Maybe I'm viewing the book through a nostalgia lense.
