You forgot about the third side of the conflict again. The innocent civlians Israel (and Hamas) are killing are the good guys. The two theocratic pro-genocide states are exactly the same and both on the same side. That side is war and death.

The problem is very simple. Israel and their neoliberal allies want you to think the only sides are Israel and Hamas. But you and I support the third side, the civilians. You simply have to redefine the argument. You tell them, “I am against Israel. And I’m against Hamas too. I’ve picked my side, and it’s the innocents”.

Huge swathes of Lemmy are deeply transphobic. I’ve never seen such bullshit on Reddit. I agree there are more communists, and that’s great, but unfortunately there are a lot of politically engaged and deeply ignorant people running large instances.

I consider Hexbear to be the same pattern in a different colour. Instead of defederating, they just ban any leftist or trans person who they’ve chosen to harass today. I consider defederations and bans to be two means of accomplishing the same goal, so I wasn’t keeping the distinction in mind.

Well sure. A bigot cannot tolerate the free exchange of ideas. If bigots don’t have a safe space to be bigots, then someone may come along and call them a transphobe and hurt their feelings. Authoritarian powers have always found excuses to shut down the speech of progressive radicals. Protest cannot be tolerated. They will use words like “brigading”, and “wrecker”, and “harassment” to construct a worldview in which political speech is a moral wrong, and they will enforce that worldview. I’ve seen this behaviour from both Blahaj and Hexbear. And I’ve seen it from my own government used against all kinds of progressive protesters. It’s universal.

Yeah, I’m really looking forward to moving off Discord. The username change made the biggest difference to me, I lost the last of my trust in them to keep making user friendly decisions at that moment. But regardless of trust, my polycule needs a tool to differentiate headmates, and Discord is the only platform that has that so far. I know because I’ve looked. We’ll switch when a pluralkit equivalent is available

Discord is going to stay king in terms of queer community as long as it’s the only chat app with Pluralkit. My polycule can’t use anything else.
