Famously, the Spartacus Uprising was definitely a democratic movement and not an attempt to seize the government by force before democratic elections could be held. /s

There was a general strike! Millions of people participated! It failed in large part because the Communists weren’t ready for it and their leadership was too paralyzed in the moment to actually seize power!

But please continue to just imagine what historical events were like instead of picking up a book and learning about them.

which had previously been cooperative with the KPD after the establishment of the Weimar Republic.

Famously the SPD didn’t work together with fascists to create the kill squads that murdered Rosa Luxemburg.

To reiterate what I said the last time centrists acted revisionist about this shit, nobody in history has been more vindicated than Ernst motherfucking Thalmann. Social Democrats are objectively the moderate wing of fascism and they enthusiastically participated in suppressing everyone to the left of them until there was nobody left and the Nazis decided it was their turn.

  • The SPD was joining with the right to crush workers’ movements long before the election of 1933. If the KPD had joined with them in a coalition it would have represented the KPD abandoning the German workers, and events from then on would have played out largely the same because the Social Democrats enthusiastically went after the Communists along with the Nazis, and it was once the Communists were taken out that the Nazis turned their ire towards the Social Democrats.

The only ways Wiemar Germany turns out different is if a) the SPD joins, rather than represses, the Spartacist Uprising, or b) the KPD manages to take control before being destroyed. It isn’t about being perfect, it’s about preventing the forces of reaction from having a foothold in the movement.

  • Government subsidies are not the same thing as collectivization. Collectivization implies collective ownership, under Capitalism what you have instead is usually consolidation, where large farms buy up smaller competitors and become less efficient over time. America’s approach to agricultural policy is how you get perverse incentives like speculators buying up land in order to collect government money to not grow anything.

  • Yes, but as a specific exercise, the US government wants to spy on US citizens because if gives them the power to arrest you. You could be committing crimes right now and not realize it, but if you ever become a person of interest they will use them against you.

Of what use is specific data from specific nationals to a foreign government? They don’t have anywhere near the same level of power over your life as your home government does, unless you’re a defense contractor or a government official or something, all of that information is just fluff to them.

And not for nothing, but the original conversation was about Discord, which is partially owned by Tencent but partial ownership by a private Chinese firm does not give the Chinese government any kind of special control over the platform.

  • The crash happened in between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, which is why at the start of ESB his character gets whomped in the face and why in the Holiday Special the camera only shows him from far away. The reason he made a career move to voice acting was that he was type cast as Luke Skywalker and simply couldn’t get work doing much else (except for Wing Commander).
