That cultural win gets won from the bottom up, the people need to vote politicians like AOC and Bernie into every seat that comes up for election in every layer of government and push every neoliberal incumbent out. From local school board elections to the senate. That means that people need to show up and vote in every primary and election and not wait for the big one once every four years. The left wing of the party needs to put more focus and money in these smaller elections and put actual leftists or progressives candidates on those local ballots. That’s how the Tea Party and Maga republicans gained power inside the GOP.

I bet many of the Bernie voters have never voted in a local election in the years prior to that primary.

I doubt the Democrats will learn their lesson when they lose. They didn’t became more progressive when Hillary lost when the Bernie voters stayed home. The only shift to the left in the party that happened was when incumbent democrats got replaced by outsiders like AOC. So if you want to punish Democrats do it during a primary and vote an incumbent out.

Yeah but saying that you vote third party during local elections doesn’t rile people up. Many of these third party voters only come out of the woodwork during presidential elections just because they want to be contrarians.

I sit on a IKEA barstool without cushioning behind a jury rigged standing desk. Actually solved my back pain that I got from an office chair. Probably because I’m forced to sit more at the front of the chair since it’s hard to push the chair close to the desk once I’m sitting on it. I can’t lean back, so my back stays straight for longer than when I used an office chair.

I’m of the opinion that using a really good comfy chair everyday for 8 hours that relaxes your body is probably not good for you in the long run. It makes your body weak. It’s like sitting on a sofa all day.

I know people that sit on the floor all day on a sturdy cushion in a lotus position behind a coffee table they use as a desk. They never have pain in their back or anywhere else from sitting. If you can sit with your back straight and your hips are at 90+ degrees angle so your knees are below your hips you will reduce the chances of getting issues with your back significantly and it doesn’t really matter what kind of chair you use.

The change you want to see won’t happen from the top because of the electoral system. It needs to happen from the ground up. It’s in the local elections and primaries where you need to push for “radical” candidates. That’s also how the US can get rid of the FPTP system.

Pushing for a third party once every four years won’t do shit and will only help the candidate who will actually lose the popular vote win the race.

Improving voting accessibility will solve that. It takes 10 minutes for people to vote if there is a line in my country. They can also only vote in their own municipality and don’t get paid time off to vote. Making it a holiday still doesn’t solve the 8+ hours waiting time. People still won’t vote if they have to wait that long, they would rather enjoy their day off.

Why? Just make voting more accessible. In my country, the Netherlands, there are just many voting locations that open early in the morning and close at 9PM. Like during an election day there are 3 voting stations within a 5 minute walk from my home and there are voting stations at every major train station. You can vote almost everywhere. No excuse to not vote even if you have to work that day.

There is no point in making Election Day a holiday when you don’t fix voting accessibility first. Why create a holiday and then waste it for standing in line?
