  • The article explicitly pointed out this extended security patching does not cover support

It's easy to agree with Microsoft when you don't bother reading the article and just make up a reason to support their decision

  • A key, exactly like they did it for decades? Same way they verified you paid for that copy of Windows?

  • It will fool a lot of people. A large chunk of Americans have been fooled for the past several decades by things like this

They'll latch onto anything that let's them continue destroying the environment because they don't want to change

  • Because the local and state governments in those deserts keep promising them unlimited water for nearly free

  • Without interference, I think he'll win easily. I just don't have confidence in the integrity of a local election in the current US political climate

Not to say vote machines will be tampered with, just that there's a lot of ways Trump and the current political machine can interfere. Especially since anti-Mamdani is something old guard Democrats and Conservatives can agree on

  • It wouldn't just be a Trump endorsement. It's putting the might of the conservative propaganda machine behind him. It's getting Sliwa, the Republican candidate, to drop out and endorse him

NYC is very Democrat, but the Republican base is still a significant voting block. If they can get that bloc to vote Cuomo, and rally the Adams base (likely offering him immunity/pardons, and some position of power), they represent a sognificant threat to Mamdani, even if he is the most popular candidate by far

Trump doesn't believe in free and fair elections. He's shown he's more than willing to break the law to get the election results he wants

  • I'm finding AI effectively automates entry level jobs and interns. The long term implications is very few will be able to enter the field. What do we do when all the experienced engineers retire? How will we shift our economy to work for everyone under this model?

  • At least some of the negligence is on Google, for the atrocious default security settings in Firebase

The vulnerability is called hospital gown because they leave the back end wide open by design. It's not even a traditional vulnerability, since it's technically working as intended

  • Many are for now. Long-term I don't expect any company will accept lower profits. Means a whole lot of that tariff inflation is still looming for the consumer

  • This isn't yet factoring in tariff inflation. Most compabies have been temporarily eating most of the tariff taxes. We're going to get a whole lot more inflation in the next year or two, if the tariffs stick around

  • Blackstone is an absolutely massive, global company. Would you expect an article to also describe what Netflix is any time they talk about them?

  • People day that about every story coming out of the Trump admin. And it's true, every one of these stories would be a huge scandal in normal times

The thing is America is now an autocratic country. Opposing the oligarchs, especially Trump, now leads to significant personal consequences

This is all setup. Silencing dissenting news doesn't immediately do anything. It just let's them do terrible things more easily in the future

Once it gets real ugly, I'll be leaving. I voted against and protested against this stuff my whole life. It didn't work. Until it gets to that point though, I make way more here than elsewhere. Might as well bank money while I can

  • yes devs are either super green or even mostly AI

Solely blaming the devs tells me you have no experience with Firebase security

  • That's exactly what hacking is.

'90s hacking movies may have given you a different idea of what cybersecurity looks like, but this is what the real world is like

Also, Google deserves a scolding here. Firebase's default configuration is absolutely atrocious. One of the few critical vulnerabilities I've seen where the system is working as intended. Dubbed the hospital gown vuknerability because they leave the backend wide open by default

  • How very socialist of him

  • That's insane to me that the Fox News host tried to pretend it was an issue with the mic. It's so clear the mic was working fine, what the fuck. This is the kind of obvious propaganda that I'd expect from North Korea

  • He's gotten $32,000 so far. Being an outspoken POS has to be one of the highest earning jobs in America. The last one got a million for calling a child the N-word

  • Mildly pedantic, but uBlock blocks the connection before it enters your network

  • They already make money hand-over-fist on Azure. Cloud computing is already quite expensive
