The “counseling” being referenced above is abuse, not actual therapy. It’s someone brain washing a kid to make them think bad about themselves and “want” to “get better”. It’s everything the asshole fascists claim the drag queen story hour folks are doing, because like everything it’s all projection. The party of “family values” and “protect our kids” that wants to take away kids meals, healthcare, education, and if they don’t “act right” to ship them off to one of these torture camps to “straighten them out”.

Good to see news like this with all the bad/hate the right is trying to impose on everyone constantly.

I’m guessing here, but sounds like a play on his “bigly” wording. He has the best words, his English professor friends all tell him!

His brain is like mashed potatoes at this point, almost everything he regurgitates is something his staff prints out for him every morning (how he gets his “news”), TV, or some wild troll farm coming to his social feed. He then sees these things and runs with them because he has no critical thinking skills at all. That is why his handlers try and talk to him through the TV appearances and op eds that could be printed for him.

The pets stuff was from Fox and others knowing it wasn’t legit but putting it out for Trump to pickup, though probably for his rallies, as at the debate it did not land.

Let me repeat: there is no real privacy in any social network. If people are genuinely afraid of being targeted because of what they write online, the solution is not to give them a false sense of privacy, but to educate and empower them to use messaging platforms that are provably secure.

I think everyone understands that what they type is public, but there is a difference between posting something to a community that may be small in nature and would likely only be found and read by those also interested or a part of said community, and someone creating a database of ALL this type of content that some troll can use to more easily target people and blast their hate filled replies out to.

Those that are telling marginalized folks to use instance XYZ because “they don’t federate with threads and therefore are safe” think that they are being helpful, but in reality are putting them at even more risk because they are telling all of them to concentrate in the same place and make the targeted tracking even easier for malicious actors.

I don’t think anyone is telling groups “post to my instance and you’ll be safe from threads”. But when people want to do things like creating bridges from Threads to Lemmy they strip admins of the ability to block Threads content from Lemmy instances that defederated Threads for a reason.

These topics have far reaching implications that just “I want all the search!” and anyone that doesn’t want it is holding the fediverse back.

Is this in Texas where the guy responsible was just indicted? He was supposed to look at all the places ballots were to go and instead just sent basically a divided equal amount to each location. He did this partly because he was doing this while at work at another job that was undisclosed to the local government while he “worked from home” for them. His new job was with some oil company paying considerably more, but he never resigned and just half assed his gov work to keep the extra $.

I think what you are talking about is instances that may have a large population of marginalized groups, and the fear that someone is creating a database that could be used to easily seek them out and use it for trolling and such. Which I think is a very valid concern.

And as mentioned above, you have the crowd that wants to take an instance and give all their posts over to for-profit corporations like Threads and Bluesky, that should not even be called part of the fediverse IMHO.

I don’t know how you make a global search for the fediverse that avoids both of those issues though.

I would LOVE to see Trump drop out for whatever reason, and then the GOP has a vote like they did for the speaker of the house to see who takes his place. The drama of all the wackos that 1/2 of even the GOP worst dislike, mixed with all the opportunist bottom feeders, all trying to battle it out to lead the party in the new power vacuum of “yes men/women” would be just pay-per-view level entertainment.

On top of that, we have millions of people pouring into our country from prisons and jails, from mental institutions and insane asylums and they’re coming and they’re taking jobs that are occupied right now by African Americans and Hispanics and also unions.

So essentially he believes that people of color only work jobs so bad, that employers have started to replace these people with what I would assume are people that are clearly “insane” and/or with mental health issues. Just wild!

I think it was from a Facebook post of some conspiracy theorist, and may have been based on a lady in Canton Ohio that was having an episode from drug addiction and for some reason ate her cat. But conspiracy theriost turned it into immigrants because that’s what you do when also having a break from reality.

Or they are some of the many people Trump’s campaign pays to attend. It’s not an accident that if anyone of color can be found at a Trump rally, that they are just behind Trump where they would be in the TV frame when any clip of his word salad “speech” is played back.

I don’t see why the election should have anything to do with the sentencing, or when it takes place. This was interference in the 2016 election (and calling it his “hush money” trial is a great way for the media to “both sides” this whole thing). He should be sentenced now, and if that means he continues his run for office from a jail cell waiting on his appeal it should have been expected (and is of course why he announced so early). If he wins then we have just moved the goal posts to sentencing a running candidate to sentencing the President-elect, which you know the Supreme Court is going to do absolutely everything in their power to say he is then immune to all sentencing. He then becomes a dictator, gets all his cases removed, and puts his flying monkeys into motion for retribution and Project 2025.

The whole system being afraid to hold Trump accountable for crimes (in this case he has already been found guilty of them), makes this more political by trying to maintain this nonsense of dealing with everything he does in bad faith with kid gloves to maintain a “non-political” look. He should be treated like any other citizen found guilty of 34 felonies, his political life should play no part in his sentencing, and the fact that is not the case just goes to show how we have a 2 tier justice system.

And tax write-off sink holes, as he loves to over-value for loans and then under value for tax breaks (ex. - what he did in NY and is currently appealing the judgement against him). And losses would lower that tax burden even further.

Yeah I didn’t mean to suggest going as far as shutting any of the platforms down, but they shouldn’t be able to game their algorithms to push hate speech and conspiracy theories while suppressing facts. Unless they wanted to put a disclaimer under every use of said algorithm stating such. Although, at least in the US, hate speech isn’t always protected speech.

I haven’t run Jellyfin outside of docker in ages, but looks like you have at least one set of conflicting tags in your exec section of that service file you posted (web something or other I can’t see on mobile once starting this reply - you have a flat setting it and a flag disabling it).

We should also be looking harder at platforms like Facebook and Twitter that have relaxed, or in the case of Musk with Twitter, outright removed the people in charge of making sure that their platforms aren’t just disinformation fire hoses spewing shit all over the place. When we have millions of people that are part of a cult, or just lack any critical thinking ability, the last thing we need as a society is these large platforms designed to just put the worst conspiracy/hate/*phobic stuff in front of as many eyeballs as possible.

When does Ginni get an indictment? Just because she is the spouse of a Supreme Court Justice shouldn’t put her above the law. She helped fuel the insurrection, and now this clear corruption with a law firm that pushes shit before her husband and his other conspirators, trying to rewrite the “interpretation” of the constitution one bad faith case at a time.
