What kinds of food can 100% be attributed to the US? Fast food? Spray cheese?
None, but the notion of any “pure” and “original” cuisine existing is a myth that normalizes nativism.

When Harris first came on the scene I thought to myself that the election became a battle between Reagan nostalgia and Obama nostalgia. And I cannot blame any American for feeling Obama nostalgia because I feel Obama nostalgia, but reliance on nostalgia blinds us to new ideas and current issues.
Nothing will be done until the politicians can no longer ignore end FPTP movements.
Guns are pretty much banned in Japan and the UK.
Still, presenting it as a binary is harmful to the movement, when Americans regularly poll in favor of stricter gun measures but not an outright ban.
According to polling most Americans support stricter gun control measures but not a ban. As usual, it’s the Electoral College and FPTP (IMO, no country with either should be listed as a full democracy. Not USA, not UK, and not Canada.) Still, it is true that the gun issue is too often presented as binary (but I’d actually say this is just as common with foreigners arguing for gun bans as it is with Americans arguing against it.)
I’m a zoomed so I can confirm you completely failed to bring up any media relevant to Gen Z, and Star Trek TOS and Ali are closer than Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, and Bond.
Have they never seen a music video before?
I’ll be the first person to explain how the math on third party candidates doesn’t work out, but I’m really not into this “blocking them from the ballot” thing. Whether it’s the Dems with Cornell West and the Green Party or the Republicans with the Libertarians and RFK Jr.
Even arguably the two most similar cultures in the world, the United States and Canada, have enough disagreements on how government should work that there wouldn’t be massive support on either side for them to merge.
Not to mention 1A has worked against Rowling in the past (she threatens libel lawsuits that are valid in the UK, but US doesn’t extradite for stuff that would be considered free speech there.)
Without exception, people who insist on voting third party ignore the real solution. You need to organize to end FPTP. Green Party, Libertarian, etc. will never matter at any level higher than local otherwise.
Does she think the government is Xbox Live?
I don’t. I’m definitely voting for Harris, but I don’t. I think they made Biden drop out because he’s in mental decline and sucks at campaigning.
If Mexico attempted to annex Texas, it would be a failure of government. There is nothing that the 1.294 million people who reside in the 31 states that currently comprise the United Mexican States could possibly gain, and a lot they could lose, from adding Texas to their ranks.
I think the Ukraine situation does more to increase the favorability of military spending than anything with China.
But mostly I think America being late to intervene in WWII still hangs over the American public’s heads (to me it would seem this is the point when anti-interventionism stopped being the norm.)
I think Biden should step down as president too. I don’t think it looks right for them to be saying Biden isn’t fit to run but is fit to fill the remainder of his term.
I cannot exaggerate to you that this 100% fulfils the negative perceptions of European governments that American isolationists have. The article says they cut Ukraine funding to fund social programs. The right-wing narrative in America is that needing to have the huge military is why we have a weak social safety net (not true btw, med4all for example would save Uncle Sam money) which is framed as “we pay for European social programs.” But here’s a government… literally cutting military spending in the middle of aiding a real war that could be highly consequential to the country in question to fund social programs.
How is an American supposed to argue in favor of funding the defense of Europe when the richest country in Europe doesn’t want to fund the defense of Europe? If Germany gets to decide to go for “Germany first,” how long until “Britain first?” “France first?” “Italy first?” Will Ukraine funding just be a hot potato that everyone will claim is important but nobody actually wants to do?
When European countries started raising military spending in response to a threat, it weakened American isolationist arguments. But this strengthens them. I hope no other European countries pull this shit.
please tell me this is a joke
This isn’t a far-left outlet.
(My opinion is that the best plan against fascism is the one someone is actually going to try and do, and so far American far-leftists haven’t responded to fascism in the way they claim is necessary to defeat it.)
Vermont tried and failed to get one going.
Every cuisine except for those of uncontacted tribes is shaped by migration, trade, economics, etc. The ingredients Italian cuisine is most known for are pasta (derived from early Arabic forms of noodles) and tomatoes (South America.) You can say Lasagna was invented in Italy, but you can’t say it’s the product of cultural purity that Europeans tend to think of their cuisines as.
Only to the degree that the hamburger actually is an original American dish does “pure” cuisine exist. People looking to discredit American food call it German, and while it evolved from Hamburg steak, by most accounts the first people to turn that into a sandwich, and then top it with cheese, lettuce, and tomato instead of gravy were in the United States. Burgers are German only to the degree that Bahn Mi is French.
