You know Obama just took off out of the country today?
Yeah, you know, that guy who is no longer in a position of power and can’t be elected to office again? What the fuck does that have to do with anything?
Progenitor of the Weird Knife Wednesday feature column. Is “column” the right word? Anyway, apparently I also coined the Very Specific Object nomenclature now sporadically used in the 3D printing community. Yeah, that was me. This must be how Cory Doctorow feels all the time these days.

Some people are apparently incapable of learning anything except by rote. To them, every problem or situation has one solution, and they have no answer for any situation that has not previously been explicitly spelled out to them and the solution memorized, and failing that they not only won’t know what to do but they flat out won’t even try. There is no such thing as figuring out a new solution to anything based on logic or deduction. In any process, they will refuse to understand how the result is actually derived from the actions taken, nor what each step does or why it is done.
I’ve had to work with several people like this over the years and it’s both exhausting and infuriating.
In my line of work I have also been forced to interact with people, mostly clients, who cannot understand hypotheticals. Any abstract or non-concrete concept is completely lost on them and worse, usually exposing them to one will make them irrationally angry in response – which they will immediately direct at you, you nerd.
These people are not only allowed to vote, but also drive cars, own firearms, and have children. It’s shocking.
Seems like someone spent a little too much time studying the blade.
I mean, there’s nothing that’s officially the front page but the default view is usually considered to be it. “All” ignores your subscriptions, and only honors your blocked communities/instances/users.
It’s the default feed you get when you navigate to your instance (lemmy.world in this case) as opposed to your subscription view or any specific communities/subs. Here it’s either “local” (posts from just this instance) or “all” (posts from this and other federated instances).
They’re one of the most prolific posters on here. Maybe 1/3 to 1/4 of your front page will be their posts at times. I was ribbing the parent poster for implying that anyone who posts on here frequently “must” be a bot, which is obviously horseshit.
Some of us genuinely have nothing better to do.
Not that I’d know or anything. ¬_¬
You have, like, met @The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website, right?
Knives are prohibited
Tru fax, I am never working where you do, ever, so long as I live. I’d melt like the Wicked Witch of the West, I’m sure.
This also apparently violates the new rules that I did not read. But I ain’t no narc.
Censor what, their own username? This individual seems to have already committed to kicking the beehive and reaping the results.
You can just send 'em back and buy something else. Amazon will take any damn fool thing back.
We could only hope.
Shout out to B&H. I bought my drone from them, and they offered the same model bundle at a slightly lower price than Amazon and also offered next-day shipping for no charge.
They also have a physical retail store and real live people you can call if you have a question, unlike either winding up talking to a chatbot or being redirected to Mumbai after a 45 minute hold.
I don’t know these guys from a hole in the ground other than that, but they beat Amazon and that was good enough for me.
Nah. Even if it’s local, I’ll burn my CPU cycles on what I want to, thanks. That’s like installing a bitcoin miner in your PC and claiming, “But it only runs in the background.” Fuck off and buy your own hardware, Microsoft.
Nope.
Back in the box and straight back to the store.
I’m interested to hear what the deal is now with all those damn “EcoATM” cell phone buying kiosks now, because to my knowledge those were operated by the same outfit (Outerwall) as Redbox is/was. Are they bankrupt, too? My local Dollar General has had one squatting in their foyer for over a year with an out of order sign taped to it and apparently nobody from the mothership has noticed or cares.
Those damn things are theoretically full of cash.
But it’s abandoned on their property. If you abandoned something on a commercial property and never came to reclaim it, eventually (probably quite quickly) the store management would dispose of it. They’re not going to keep it around stinking up the place forever “just in case.”
I’d doubt somebody could officially just unilaterally throw the thing away, but the business on whose property it’s parked absolutely has some kind of contingency to deal with crap left there by one of their vendors. Or they will if they’re a retail operation worth a damn.
This is in fact precisely what happens. LLM output becomes increasingly incoherent with each subsequent generation trained off of previously AI generated data.
Those watches, if any of them even actually ship, are guaranteed to be straight from Aliexpress.
It’s satire, but it’s also very, very realistic.
