  • UX is polished enough to not be painful

This one requirement I believe to be already met. Mobile kde, for one, is pretty nice. I believe the bottleneck of linux phones are really in the hardware

  • I found myself using my phone less and less too, and to be honest, I'm even feeling healthier mentally. Portable devices were supposed to improve our life, not make it worse. Big tech did something really terrible to phones :(

  • But almost always, during the initial stage of the struggle, the oppressed, instead of striving for liberation, tend themselves to become oppressors, or “sub-oppressors.” The very structure of their thought has been conditioned by the contradictions of the concrete, existential situation by which they were shaped. Their ideal is to be men; but for them, to be men is to be oppressors. This is their model of humanity

A quote from Paulo Freire, in the pedagogy of the oppressed

  • Fun fact; Here in Brazil, the cheaper tv models being sold are 720p, and a lot of people buy them and don't even know what video resolution is, neither they feel like missing something lol

  • My advice is to always go in short steps, proving the ground and getting to know the alternatives. I'd recommend installing f-droid and having fun testing all the free apps you can, removing google stuff one by one, then, after feeling comfortable, trying a custom rom, and when you eventually need a new phone, looking for a model more friendly to degoogling.

  • And not only an easy thing to do, but something that bothers the big tech a lot! If it didn't bother, they wouldn't care to invest so much in making it harder for us, and if it bothers them, it means we're on the right track.

  • Linux market share is increasing even in the charts with all OSes, desktop and mobile.

  • So, if we consider a classroom, it's roughly 1 or 2 students using linux in each class. I don't think it's too far off from real life experience.

  • Let the long awaited convergence be finally true!

  • Time to bring your friend to lemmy

  • I'd prefer that firefox os had caught on and turned into a big player today

  • We see those jokes around, but I have seen a guy in real life that keeps SEVERAL tabs open and uses it as some sort of storage. He does that and then goes into every tech conversation to say that 16gb is "absolutely trash" nowadays, and that we need like at least 64gb. ¯(ツ)_/¯

He also does everything online while logged in on google and on every online service possible. Looking at his browser giver me some unexplainable agony.

  • Irony

    Jump
  • Is there a viable way to block only unnecessary js, while loading the minimum necessary to properly render the sites?

  • ditching big tech reliance.

    This is the real protest!

  • How to reduce the number of toxic communities on the internet with a simple trick

  • Well... with streaming services people don't actually have anything, because nothing in there is theirs to own ;)

  • Hope you're enjoying the freedom, fellow FOSSer :)

  • It always bugs me that china has higher windows usage than the rest of the world.

By the way, is it really around 6% for english-speaking users? That's huge!

  • Don't threaten, just do it!

I don't get why people are so stubborn to move away from corporate products.
