  • No, I’m specifically talking about the multiple campaigns on the left going back to 2016 that heavily focused on awareness and education of Trump’s many issues. The left consistently banks on the logic of ‘if I just make people aware of this wrong, then they will vote/protest/demand change’. They think simply educating people will magically get them to agree and take appropriate action.

Instead of actual political maneuvers similar to what the right has been pulling for years, they think ‘awareness’ is the only real work they have to do. There have been multiple times the right has blatantly ignored procedures, laws, etc and the left routinely fails to do anything beyond making their voters aware that the right is being a bad guy. They don’t attempt to hold them in contempt, they don’t choose to proceed forward anyway, because ‘tradition’ says they shouldn’t. They haven’t responded with any of their own schemes to counter the right at all.

The right is doing every possible action they can get away with and the left is so scared of doing anything even slightly controversial that they don’t even take the options available by the rules, but instead hold themselves to even higher standards than necessary.

  • My concern since late 2018 or so has been that America is effectively terminal, it’s just that we don’t know it yet. That we’ve passed some internal tipping point before waking up where even if we try to course correct, it’s too late to stop the decline. I’m not sure we can get the momentum anymore to fix it. Biden and even Kamala feel more like a temporary reprieve where we’ll only have enough power to stave off total collapse, but not enough to actually make any headway. Which is basically all Biden has been able to do.

  • Massively agree on the states issue. The original idea was a bunch of little countries that only shared a handful of federal powers. That concept has completely fallen apart and now we’re just an extremely poorly organized country with wildly different sized regions.

We either need to break every state into roughly the same size or we need to start merging too small states together until we have a collection of California sized states to manage.

For many people ‘their state’ has little meaning to them beyond sports teams and food trends. They have extremely low interest or engagement in state politics which is a major problem.

But this is an impossible dream, so we’re pretty much stuck with this horrible arrangement.

  • Agreed. I keep waffling on my feelings about it. It definitely doesn’t feel like our laws properly handle the scale that LLMs can take advantage of ‘fair use’. It also feels like yet another way to centralize and consolidate wealth, this time not money, but rather art and literary wealth in the hands of a few.

I already see artists that used to get commissions now replaced by endless AI pictures generated via a Lora specifically aping their style. If it was a human copying you, they’d still be limited by the amount they could produce. But an AI can spit out millions of images all in the style you perfected. Which feels wrong.
