  • Plastic ish materials can be made from plants like hemp, stronger and non toxic depending on how they are made.

    Good luck switching over, barriers to entry, an economy of scale needed to compete with plastic, and oil bros using the government to stymie competition would all prevent large scale switch over.

    90 pc of all plastic ever made had been made in the last ten years it was reported years back, and huge new manufacturies were under construction. Which since everything was already plastic makes one wonder what all new they are doing with this increasing supply?

    One thing is for certain, landfill it. Recycling plastic does not work, it releases chemicals, and was a psy op of oil companies to begin with to deflect blame.

  • What pisses me off is a lot of times these influence agents are not hard to spot but if they are with a powerful group they get a pass, and if you argue with them they will manipulate the rules or have your name sent to social media and they will ban you or violate you I should say for unrelated reasons. Especially about a certain country connected to our foreign policy but not just that and it's going to get worse.

    Not only do they allow fake accounts to violate their own rules and manipulate us, but they dishonestly violate people that have not broken rules at the behest of those powerful interests. The government and billionaires have their hooks well into social media, it is doomed, and there is no way to achieve anything big through it with it being fucked as so.

  • I am not all that Savvy and I almost gave up trying to join Lemmy here. The first instance I tried to join did not accept my application for whatever reason and two days time, this one did within just a few hours but I almost did not bother trying a second one. Is this pie fed and instance of the Federated Lemmy here? I'm not entirely certain how all this works but the idea I wholeheartedly support and think is the future for online communication of people that are not tools.

  • There are a number of endocrine disruptors they use not just the one you mentioned,. Consumer Reports has looked at it. But it is also bad for tourist areas that have a lot of swimmers like coral reefs, all the sunscreen washes off and fucks up the animals.

  • Yeah I read the article, I was just adding the part about the endocrine disruptors cuz that's what I care about. It said an American company actually had guy go to jail for faking results at some point.

    The mineral sunscreens also do not rub in at least the ones I have gotten. So a lot of people won't want to use them.

  • Idk about that companies that use toxic stuff always deny its toxic, then if forced to admit it's toxic say it is in amounts too small to affect you.

    I certainly would not take their word for it or people they pay to say so.

    It has real effects on coral reefs and other areas where people swim and have it wash off in. And there are a range of endocrine disruptors in lots of goods that do have real effects on people even if not quite noticeable. Amphibians are particularly sensitive to them and can wipe out populations in the low parts per billions.
