Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Politics centered around promoting use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.

  • Yes, but like many things, have to remove ignored laws before breaking other norms.

This is paving the way for churches to be part of militia groups

(Tax free armed groups openly sponsored by large churches)

  • While I think the mod is just doing regular mod stuff; that is an overly broad rule to justify it.

I think one can argue that excellence to our fellow beings would be a revolution that burns all those houses down!

They need an anti insurrection rule on that community, to fit with their plain, vanilla, safe guidelines

  • I think this would rely on community activism; in America today most activism is internet based, and not neighborhood oriented.

So, I think this has happened before, but not since the collapse of local community politics in the 1980s; but someone more knowledgeable of history could probably find examples from the 1970s and 1960s or earlier.

it’s a great idea and definitely could be used as a stop gap; and I hope to see it used later as community activism gets a reboot later.

But if it can work before then, that would be great

  • In combination with all the other reasons they are docile, this all happens at a very bad time, A second Industrial Revolution occurred the last two generations disrupting community politics when most people moved around the country at least once and changed their jobs.

Society is paralyzed more than the first Industrial Revolution in the 1700s. Old political networks were dissolved, and there is a leadership vacuum on many levels

  • Love it

  • It’s really weird reading about such an evil place before it is functional, almost like there is an opportunity to stop it but everyone is scared to try

  • I attempted to download a car once, but front wheel got stuck in my router. Was huge mess

  • Any decent political organization cannot give equal rights to those who want to hurt others. One can be as kind and gentle about that as possible, but ultimately that rests on violence, or at least the threat of violence, to keep the peace.

Any violence, or threat of such, is by definition dehumanizing at some level.

  • After decades of warnings warped by opportunistic politics, it is hard these days to take this seriously.

There will probably be one or two small incidents, covered by the press, especially if the perpetrator is not Christian or is not white. Police departments will use this as an excuse to spend more money.

But any mass shooting that causes so many more casualties, in the next week or two, will have a small mention only and be forgotten.

  • It took me way too long to find and unsubscribe from all the communities you moderate.

  • Poor world news mods can’t catch a break today. PTB

  • It definitely solves many issues!

    Will lookup tornado cash

  • While I can easily imagine the USA splitting up, the fascists are in every community though.

I like the quote from Sontag

10 percent of any population is cruel, no matter what, and 10 percent is merciful, no matter what, and the remaining 80 percent can be moved in either direction. / Susan Sontag

The problem with avoiding the fascists is that they are always everywhere at a low percentage; and a good society requires the equally low percentage of decent persons to convince the vast majority of people to not go rogue.

This requires good governance in local areas; and that is a finicky thing indeed. If the USA splits up, who knows how that goes? I would not put money on any region being bad or good in two generations

  • Yes, it’s not hard for a full stack developer to make. Probably a thousand people already in the fediverse can, including me.

But it cannot be hosted on USA controlled servers, and the developers need to find a way to be anonymous to USA offices

Edit: also some other issues. Cannot put it as an onion service because most people in the USA do not use tor. This means regular domain.

    • register domain where cannot be seized
    • server must be load balanced or using something like kubernetes
    • heavy traffic costs money , how to pay bills without crossing USA banking system? And cannot expose payers or contributors
    • where to host?

many people can build it, but most of us have no clue to the obstacles

  • That is so true

  • Looking at the reviews, ignoring the mega hats, it seems part of the app does not work from time to time

  • Oh, I have stopped, as of today I am no longer engaging this debate. Hopefully this takes and I don’t spend energy while I figure out what to do
