  • There are aspects of "Make America Healthy Again" that are actually good ideas but the problem is that they are tied to extremely bad ones. Like getting rid of artificial dyes in food and improving food purity are good ideas on the surface, but they're tied to dumb ass ideas like seed oil panic and anti vax. Furthermore, none of this stuff is actually being supported by law. It's all just rhetoric and the actual law and policy changes are just more pro corporate nonsense and all action taken by corporations so far has been voluntary statements saying they'll do something in the future. I think this is the real problem of the conservative movement at least in its current form. Even when they stumble upon a good idea, the fact that there is no underlying logical framework to that idea other than just further enriching those in charge means that said idea can't be implemented properly and without other nonsense.

  • I think people are smoking crack if they think a Trumpcession will hurt the MAGA movement at all. These guys could lose their jobs and be stuck eating lentil soup to survive and insist the economy is great or will be great again any moment now. I truly believe that there is a significant subset of the population who cannot be helped because they simply cannot defy Trump for reasons that are quite frankly incomprehensible to me.

  • US population~ 340,000,000

Websites will not cater to less than 0.5% of the population having weird laws. Unfortunately, the end result will just be that these sites will just be blocked in these states, which sucks for the people living in them, especially since at least 40% of them don't even want this shit.

  • I think you are vastly overestimating his base. They are looking for convenient excuses not logic or evidence. As long as there is a convenient excuse to trot out, Trump is still God Incarnate and the delusions continue. Someone looking for the truth won't be swayed by the obviously bribed testimony of someone who has repeatedly lied under oath, but these people aren't looking for the truth- they already have it in whatever Trump is saying that day. They just need something to point to and say "See? She says he wasn't involved so he wasn't involved! You liberals are just making things up to hurt Trump again!" This is a world where evidence isn't what matters, it's quips. As long as there's a quip to shut down any disagreement the fantasy that Trump is a saintly hero of democracy can continue.

  • dead sea scrolls

You are conflating the dead sea scrolls with the Nag Hammadi library. The Dead Sea Scrolls do not contain any Christian texts, only Jewish texts from around the time of Jesus. The Nag Hammadi library contains a number of texts typically described as "gnostic" and some of these include teachings attributed to Mary Magdalene.

  • You're imagining an argument and getting mad that I'm not making points in favor of said imaginary argument. .

  • It is, but that doesn't mean that poor people don't still eat more highly processed foods. Not smoking or using drugs is also way cheaper than doing those things, but both are more prevalent among poor people in the US.

  • I would say this is almost certainly skewed by income, with the poorest Americans getting almost all of their calories from ultra processed foods, and the share decreasing with income. I would be curious to see that spread because one of the more fucked up things about this is that there are a lot of people who eat this stuff exclusively, and this number kind of hides that.

  • It's even dumber than that. Those 30% like Trump because they like Trump at this point. He could turn around and say Lenin is his hero and that we should throw off the shackles of the bourgeoisie and overturn the capitalist order and those 30% would still love him because they love Trump not any ideology. It's completely stupid and not logical at all. Sure at the beginning there was some reason for it but now it is just completely worship for its own sake.

  • I got Persona 5 Royal in the Steam Summer Sale this year and I've been obsessed. I wanted to play Persona 4 when it came out but I was a teenager and didn't have any realistic way to get ahold of it, and then I was just super busy when Persona 5 came out but it is truly an amazing game. It definitely takes some getting used to and I would definitely not recommend to someone who isn't already a fan of JRPGs or anime but if you do like JRPGs and are okay with an anime aesthetic it doesn't really get much better than this. I knew basically nothing about Persona going in other than that it's about teens with JoJo-style Stands and it has a cool art style with interesting character designs, and I was pleasantly surprised at every turn. My only complaint is that the combat is really more about style than difficulty and the game is sort of easy even on hard mode. Definitely worth it for $15 even on its own.

  • Saving you a click- it's 400 atmospheres.

  • It's Polish not Latin. Pieróg becomes pierogi in plural.

  • I could probably handle it and find humor in it now but at 12 years old or however old I was when this happened I was not able to see the absurdity and humor of the situation

  • I saw the M. Night Shyamalan Avatar movie in theaters when I was a kid who was obsessed with Avatar. I knew the movie was going to be bad but I loved the series so much there was a bit of me that hoped it was going to be okay but no, it was even worse than my worst expectations, and completely disrespected all the characters and the series as a whole. I have seen worse movies both in and out of theaters, but the combo of my sheer love of the Avatar franchise and just how much this movie sucked plus being in a theater unable to just turn it off or leave was pretty rough.

If we're talking in the past few years, I would say the worst theater experience was watching another terrible movie, Midway (2019), while some teens behind me were doing hand stuff to each other and not being particularly subtle about it.

  • I agree on one hand, but I also feel like video games and other online spaces are kind of unique because parents don't really think about their kids having one on one conversations with adults on them. If your kid is going outside they are mostly talking to other kids and not other adults. If an adult in your kid's life IRL starts telling them Hitler was right you will probably catch wind of that much more easily than if it's online. If a guy on an obscure medieval combat simulation game starts telling your kid Hitler was right (not a hypothetical - this happened to me as a teen and thankfully I saw through what was happening) you're probably not going to even know about it unless you're really engaged with your kid and what they're getting into. I agree that's on the parents but a lot of the kids these guys are resonating with are the ones whose parents aren't particularly engaged with them or what they're doing. I think there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that this does happen and is an intentional strategy from the far right, and I think trying to pretend that there isn't a problem that is specific to games and the broader gaming community is harmful.

  • Bruh as someone who used to play a lot of video games this article is 15 years too late. I remember neo nazis attempting to recruit me as a teenager in the early 2010s and they were not subtle. This shit is why we're losing the war against fascism, the so-called "experts" don't even know where the war is being waged and don't even show up to the fight.

  • Good luck on your next painting project. If you make things, areas become very important.

  • There's a weird anti-intellectual contingent on Lemmy. I saw a dude the other day who was going on about how debt was the ultimate evil and then when questioned on it said that the entire study of economics was a conspiracy to make people want debt. Now there are kooky people on all platforms but this guy was getting upvoted a decent amount. I have also been downvoted a few times for pointing out flat out inaccuracies people have said about various religions and their beliefs because "religion bad" outweighs all logic.

  • I think what pisses me off most about this is everyone is just letting Trump get away with this shit and acting like this is a win because we didn't get 30%. If everyone had just held strong and not wavered Trump would just destroy the American economy with his tariffs or chicken out like he did last time. Sure it would suck for a bit, but it would show that the international community can't just be bullied around like this. Now, everyone has seen that this works and everyone will do it. Even worse, giving the US a deal that is this unbalanced against Europe just reinforces Trump's political power back home. If they had just held strong Trump might have started feeling some real pressure from Congress when people ask why the fuck everything costs 30% more overnight. Now things will cost 15% more but all of the sudden corporations are suddenly able to just eat into profits to pay for it without raising prices because they're so scared of Trump or think that it's easy to get money sucking him off instead of competing fairly. The EU has fucked over everyone on Earth with this "deal" and not just their own citizens.
