Admiral Patrick

I’m surprisingly level-headed for being a walking knot of anxiety.

Ask me anything.

I also develop Tesseract UI for Lemmy/Sublinks

  • We used to use it before switching to Google Workspace (don’t get me started on how much I hate that), and Teams wasn’t too bad. But it had two things going for it then:

    • It was replacing Skype for Business which never should existed because it was so awful. Compared to SfB, literally anything was an improvement.
    • At the time, it was basically a Slack clone that didn’t have everything and the kitchen sink bolted on yet and was decently lightweight if you used the browser version.

  • I blocked most of them over the last year because the lion’s share of them seemed very disingenuous. i.e. they’re here only to screech about a wedge issue during an election season, to use it as a bludgeon to universally bash anyone they disagree with, and generally doing nothing but stirring up shit.

I’ve heard other people mention recently that those accounts have apparently gone silent.

So, let this be a lesson for the next election if we’re fortunate enough to have one: If an account does nothing but screech about a wedge issue, just block them. Mods would be wise to take a closer look at those accounts, too.

  • And to make this even more ridiculous than it already is, they’re calling this board the “warrior board”.

If Donald Trump approves the order, it could fast-track the removal of generals and admirals found to be “lacking in requisite leadership qualities,” … But it could also create a chilling effect on top military officers, given the president-elect’s past vow to fire “woke generals,” referring to officers seen as promoting diversity in the ranks at the expense of military readiness.

As commander in chief, Trump can fire any officer at will, but an outside board whose members he appoints would bypass the Pentagon’s regular promotion system, signaling across the military that he intends to purge a number of generals and admirals.

But some former officials believe the potential Trump administration is looking to politicize the military. “Do they start wearing MAGA hats in formation to signal who’s where?” asked one former senior Pentagon official. “The potential for this to go wrong is infinite.

    Emphases mine.
