Secret Invasion uses AI for its opening credits, as Marvel sinks deeper into the pit of devaluing art and VFX
I looked at it out of curiosity and wow. Some shots look good, but some shots look like ass, and it’s all so blatantly AI generated. I’m surprised Marvel would go for this rather than pay professionals to do it right.
I think they were hoping to lean into the uncanny valley of AI art to cause a sense of imbalance/discomfort to fit the whole secret invasion theme. And of course save a boatload of money along the way.
I’m not necessarily against it as a concept 'cause I think art will survive AI as it survived digital painting, photography, and loads of other revolutions before. But it really is kind of a slap in the face to the artists that got Marvel where it is today.
I liked it. They used the issues of AI generated images to their advantage. Like the flickering, which everyone is trying fight with, really showed that skrulls can be anyone anywhere. As you said it shows the uncertainty and chaos which is happening
I’ve not seen it yet but the first thing I said when someone told me was “yeah, that makes sense for secret invasion”
I just started watching the first EP and as soon as the opening credits started, I thought to myself hmm this looks really AI generated. While I have no qualms with AI generated material, they are going to have to get a lot better before it is ready for production, IMO.
No, it isn’t …in response to the rage bait headline. It was an “artist” choice by the show runner(s). Was it good one? YMMV. To me, it looked like most of these abstracty opening credit sequences you see these days. I fully support artists getting opportunities and $$$ they deserve. But this mediocre credit sequence would not have caused any eyes to bat if it weren’t for a few rage-bait tweets and headlines capitalizing on tangentialy related recent news. Who even watches them after the first episode when the “skip intro” prompt shows up? Except GoT…those credits slapped and gave tidbits about the episode.
If anything, I think there’s an interesting discussion to be had about the future generative art in consumer media, and as an inevitable tool -like so many other balked at new technologies- in Art or any other discipline.
it just kind of a shame there is a whole realm of artist looking for their big break available for these studios who can churn out fantastic work. Only to be brushed away by what seems like mediocre AI. Then again concidering Marvels treatment of artist, id say they are better off.
