Because lemmy isn’t nearly as large as reddit and most of the communities I’m in are barely (if at all) active on lemmy

Be the change you want to see in the world. I loved r/writingprompts, and the one on Lemmy is practically dead except for me posting a prompt about every day or so. I’ve been tossing memes from my collection into different communities just to get content out there too.

He is obviously using both reddit and lemmy. Just because he stops using reddit it wont make the topics he follows on lemmy magically active.

In other words, “I’m not willing to inconvenience myself even in the slightest to stand by the principles I claim to hold”. You want to have your cake and eat it too.

No, in other words I still like participating in communities for games, shows, and other topics that I like and there isn’t an alternative to reddit to fulfill my wants. Reddit won’t care if I stop using it, they’ll still make their money from the 99% of users (or more) who don’t care. I’d love to use lemmy more but a social platform doesn’t work for me if I can’t find people I want to socialize with.

If everyone does what you do, no one leaves Reddit and they don’t learn their lesson. You can’t keep rewarding this bullshit so they get paid and then act surprised when they pull exactly the same shit. At some point, the blame is on you.

Most of their moneymakers are casual internet users who don’t care about any of this stuff and would only stop using reddit of it literally became unusable. If everyone who would be willing to use Lemmy stopped using reddit permanently right now they still wouldn’t care and would have plenty of users left.

That’s irrelevant. No one cares if Reddit cares right now. They start caring when it affects their bottom line and, as we’re already seeing, bot accounts and reposts that have taken over are hurting their bottom dollar because people aren’t seeing the ads. If you’re still going there, you’re helping them get paid.
