It exists for a variety of reasons, but if you want to boil it down to something, I would say the main is extreme religious jihadist beliefs and not “zionism”.
According to polls, Gaza is actually split about Hamas. The majrotiy is in favor but not by much, and it’s safe to assume some answer in fear, and IMO, many out of brainwashing. But already - if you belive the polls - the statement that “Hamas is Gaza” is incorrect.
Annecdotaly, I’d say the younger generations in Gaza don’t identify with Hamas and are not holding the same religious beliefs and motivations.
I disagree on labeling Hamas as a revolutionary group. IMO they are the oppressors. They are a terrorist group that is the true oppressors of Gaza, concerned by corruption, greed and extreme religious jihad, the real perpetrators of that mental and physical prison that is current Gaza.
The revolution would be Gazaists rising against Hamas.
Because… let’s just ignore all the stuff Israel has been and still is actively doing to the Palestinians. Obviously Hamas was the ONLY issue!
Like their point was not Hamas=Palestine ( or even Hamas=Gaza) it was Israel is fucking terrorising and oppressing the Palestinians and as such even if you kill all the religious rebellion, you’re going to have others step up to fill their place until Palestinians are all gone or Israel stops killing them for not being Israeli and let’s them exist in a space.
If you’re old enough you’d know that both extremist sides escalated to this point
Sadly I’ve come to realise that, seeing that the jews won the original confrontations, historically they’d been better off having gone full American Colonist on the muslims instead of working to slowly bully them away as they have. And for the latter to have admitted defeat and assimilated or relocated.
Not that I would support it but at least the conflict wouldn’t have dragged on forever and both populations could have evolved pass religious fundamentalism. Would humanity be better off if the US was fighting native americans to this day?
