I’m using Sailfish OS and due to the Android compatibility layer I can use it as my daily driver (with only occasional needs for my spare Android phone), but I was wondering if there’s something better in that regard?

I use PinePhone Pro with Plasma Mobile on ArchLinux from Danct. I use Waydroid for to run banking apps that runs only on Android.

I would say that camera works bad because it currently missing algorithms. And battery life is also bad unless you use the Pine keyboard that extends the battery. Sometimes interface is buggy and some apps doesn’t scale well on mobile.

well…it counts a Nokia N9? but I can’t use it as a daily driver, not for IM services (have telegram) but because I can’t configure my email (disroot) and several pages won’t load because certificate issues

Heh, that one is very old, no surprise the certificates are out of date. I remember really wanting that phone when it was new.

Other Linux phones have Waydroid these days. Also works well for running most Android apps as far as I know.

I admittedly haven’t looked very much, but is it possible to have faster startup for waydroid by autostarting it during the boot process or something?
Using Waydroid is very slow the first time. (PineTab 2)

I use a One Plus 6 with PostmarketOS. Runs very well, no camera support yet.

using pmOS edge + sxmo on a pinephone. daily-driving for 2y+. it’s a bit of work, maybe an average of 10-15min/day… but 1/ it’s less that the amount of free labour most people do on their mobile device, per day, for Google, Meta, Twitter, etc. 2/ it’s pleasant work 3/ it’s for myself, and can help others too… I would recommend if you’re not afraid of a bit of sysadmin

Nope, the only Linux phone OS I used is SailfishOS. I wanted to try Ubuntu Touch but then they stopped supporting it.

PinePhone with Phosh postmarketOS and it fits my modest needs. I ran Mobian for a long time, but in the end I had too many issues with it, like it stopped receiving calls and texts but gave no indication of such. That was annoying. Luckily, pmOS has been smooth sailing.

I tried to persist with Pinephone for a bit on Plasma mobile. In the end, I kind of felt it wasn’t ready and went with GrapheneOS. I’m hoping it makes some big strides, but with the sleep, wake, answer issues, I wasn’t fully confident where it was. Plus Neochat wasn’t good for it and Signal wasn’t taking calls for me through Waydroid. This was over half a year ago, so things may have changed.

i have an alcatel idol3 and PostmarketOS works unexpectedly well. the only thing that doesn’t work is the camera. but i don’t think it would take much longer to get most of the cameras to work, at least that’s what i get from following the gitlab issues.
