I unsubscribed from the Fediverse community because I just couldn’t take the constant hate and complaining. Now I’m seeing it in all of the general technology communities. I get that a lot of people have major issues with Meta and Threads, but I’m seriously tired of it taking over my feed. Personally, I enjoy Threads. I also use Mastodon, but the reality is there’s a lot of groups of people who aren’t on Mastodon, and Threads has given me a way to follow them again. That’s something I’m grateful for.
no wait, stop come back.
My man, your account is only 4 days old. You’re not only giving up in 4 days, but also felt the need to pull up a soap box to announce that everyone else is the reason you’re leaving? Classic Meta user.
I kind of get what you’re saying, but I also think it’s a bit naive, presuming you’re also only here (as am I) because it all went so wrong with reddit. Do you want to support a platform where there’s a corporate running it rather than the community? I think that’s why a lot of people are freaking out about Threads, because the wounds are still very fresh/people have seen this play before.
If you like Threads then great, go for it, but if you are gonna hang out on lemmy where there is a culture strongly against centralisation, you’re gonna find people talking smack about the thing you happen to like.
Don’t let the door hit you on your way out
Ok
A lot of people literally came here to get away from the corporate BS and especially after Reddit tried to lock out 3rd party integrations. After years of building their platform for which the value is in the user interactions, they’ve literally given the finger to those same users.
Of course they’re going to not be happy when an even bigger corp - with an even worse track-record - wants to jump onto the platform we just migrated to get away from that BS. Facebook especially is known for pushing controversy to the point of literally instigating violence.
Meanwhile, Mastadon and related platforms are built by highly intelligent individuals on their own time and dime.
Have fun on threads, I’m sure it won’t become a haven for anti-intellectual cesspool within a few weeks or months.
By that side of the coin, the fediverse was definitely not made for you. Did you honestly expect that the fediverse would be pro-corporate social media!? If so I’ve a slightly used bridge to sell you. The fediverse is anti-corporate and largely anti-authoritarian. Maybe just go back top your Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit then? 😆
Yeah, we wouldn’t be basically using alpha version of social media if what we wanted was a polished corporate run version with an enormous user base. We are running away from that for a reason and trying to grow communities here. If that weren’t the case we’d never have left reddit which has the advantage when it comes to size and activity for niche communities.

Bye Felicia!
See ya dude
And yet here you are to tell us all about it. Puh-leeze.
aight
Good for you for enjoying threads, but I don’t want to use threads and any instances associated with them. That’s why I’m here. I don’t see the point of using instances that federate with them, since why wouldn’t I just skip the hassle of the growing pains of the fediverse when I could just opt for a huge centralized corporate run service?
It’s because I don’t want to use threads or meta or whatever new name they come up with. Even using twitter or reddit is preferable to me over using an instance federated with Meta, since at least reddit or Twitter wouldn’t have such a direct relation with them.
I don’t see the point in refusing to use Mastodon instances that federate with Threads. There are no suggestion algorithms in Mastodon, you mostly only see posts from people you follow. You can just… not follow people from Threads. No need to throw a tantrum about it.
I find reddit way less problematic and preferable to Meta, so why would I suddenly be fine with Meta when I like reddit way more than them and still left. Leaving reddit seems trivial in relation to Meta issues.
Why are you bothered that I don’t want to use instances affiliated with Meta.
Who knew web 3.0 would be the first attempt towards digital empires.
No wonder they want to move into VR.
They want to have digital castles.
I respect your right to your opinion but understand the reason why you’re seeing a lot on the fediverse about threads. We all have our own opinions, and many of us don’t trust Meta, and trust their intentions relating to ActivtyPub even less. So, you’re seeing a lot about it because it’s a point of concern, it isn’t just a hate band wagon meant to make you feel guilty for enjoying threads.
Use what you want and worry less about other people’s opinion. If you have no problem, and you find threads to be helpful, then go for it, no reason to grand stand on here. You’re definitely not preaching to the choir on this one.
