basil mayo on a tomato sandwich sounds delicous, and tbh i don’t see any reason to stick exclusively to white sandwich bread unless yr just chasing nostalgia.
These were a ‘Dad’s cooking tonight’ staple for me as a kid. I probably thought less of them then, but they’re a fantastically quick and delicious sandwich, especially when you can grab a tomato from the garden, toast some good bakery bread and slap on home made mayo…sounds like I know what lunch is today.
I think one of the things that changed the game for me regarding a BLT and bacon in general was when it hit me that a BLT was just a tomato sandwich and the bacon is more a salty seasoning to help the mayo and tomato stand shine.
