  • I was referring to actual criminals and not kids playing pranks.

Ring cameras absolutely have been hacked and jammed. The people who did that weren't kids being annoying. They were car theft rings who used the time that cameras were downed to steal cars.

  • Fuck Israel. They have been a force for evil from day 1.

  • Because everything that is the state and institutions is a-ok in the minds of liberals and neoliberals.

Also if this shit does blow over and the media says 'actually there was an unacceptable genocide going on long before this!' The people who tacticly supported it and were always talking about civility snd debate will claim that they were always vehemently against it...

Meanwhile they will claim that activists who were always against it to have been stupid idiots who just wanted an excuse to break things and not go to work like adults and they were actually for the genocide! Thus their arrests and criminal charges will stay and they will continue to have their credibility attacked.

  • One thing that most don't realize is how they opponents of civil rights learned a lot to counter the tactics of protesters and activists, including the appropriation of such events by the opponents.

Take Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a rabidly Islamophobic Somali refugee to Holland who is celebrated by the Dutch far right even though she literally embodies every single characteristic they attribute to refugees (they are all fraudulent, they were never in danger, they want to leech off the welfare state, take unfair advantage of the country they live in, and undermine its values).

Ayaan is a full blown fascist, but she claims that what she does in opposing civil rights advocates in Holland and in the US is somehow identical to the March on Selma in the 60s. Except she will never, ever be hosed by police and have police dogs siced on her.

There is even a National Association of the Advancement of White People that claims they are only doing what the NAACP is doing... (they were founded by David Duke, btw) and even the whole civil disobedience thing that was widely celebrated in the 50s and 60s had laws passed against it as early as the 70s. Basically trying to make sure that if in the future they want to civilly disobey unjust laws they can be unceremoniously thrown in prison with all their statements of civil rights advocacy only used against them in criminal courts.

The only freedom that truely exists in neoliberal society is the freedom to grow rich by royally fucking over your fellow human beings. As long as you don't get caught too soon (as in, before you are rich enough to afford a place on Fox New's whitelist) you will get away with it. There are fewer and fewer people going to prison for major financial fraud. Close to none actually. In the 80s and 90s, during the Gordon Gecko era, you still could go to jail for a few short years and come back out richer and more influential than you started. Jail doesn't exist for rich people.

Even with the child safety act, they make specific exemptions for politicians as their own privacy is seen as sacrosanct, and despite one supporting politician getting caught with child porn on their devices, they will never see the connection.

  • Didnt the media report on crime in the 80s and 90s, too? I mean with the incredible amount of crime happening back then (at one point New York City had 2000 murders a year, while today it is closer to 200 or 250) they could have made it a fuckload more sensational. How the fuck did greatly reduced crime translate to more media sensation?

  • Not only was there more child murder back then, but they were less likely to be solved. Do you remember the whole missing kids on milk cartons? It started when a paperboy was abducted and never seen again. Also whoever did it completely disappeared, too. The police didn't have any leads or suspects.

In the 90s it was the same thing. You know the Amber alert? It was named after a girl who was kidnapped and murdered. Her killer was never found. Not a single suspect interrogated, either. Some DNA did surface in 2022 or so, but that didn't lead to any suspects either.

  • In Louisiana in the early 90s a Japanese foreign exchange student was shot during a Halloween party when he accidentally knocked on the wrong house in costume. When he walked away, the home owner came out with a revolver and yelled 'freeze'. He didn't understand what that meant since his English was poor and he walked towards them and was then shot. He probably also thought that he DID go to the right house and as it was Halloween it was probably a gag.

The home owner was acquitted, but it caused an international incident.

  • Also savvy criminals would have jammers on. There is little question in my mind that tech bro bastards probably shut down all cameras they don't fully control if they go anywhere. They want all the privacy in the world while they probably want a nice shot of your ass as you take a dump.

  • So doesn't that person have any deliveries or visitors or anything? Imagine ordering a pizza and then being shocked when some anxious guy (anxious because they got tons of deliveries to make on a deadline or be fired) shows up?

  • Ding dong ditch used to be a staple of kiddie pranks... for fuck's sake! Do none of these idiots have any real threat assessment? Or are they so desperate to shoot someone that they just wanna blast some kid and say they feared for their lives?

  • Good thing I am never going to go youtube premium.

  • Yes. I wanted to do that, but when my last phone broke it was a damn emergency. I was distrustful of phone protection because I remember getting a phone that was armored up in a case and had a tempered glass screen but... it once (first time) fell flat from my shirt pocket onto the ground flat on its front screen and it immediately went black. I had it fixed. New screen, new protector, but the protector made it possible to plug it into charge... so I had to remove it in and out of the case to do so, but the screen was broken from the pressing (like fucking how? A new changed screen AND another tempered glass cover and it was still broken just a stronger finger press?) It just kept breaking. I then refused to use protection for years after that.

But the new one I got? I think it is protection that actually works.

I got a Samsung S23. Before I get a new phone I need to remove 2fa from a lot of shit so they dont have my new phone.

I want to ask a hell of a lot more questions about this, but later.

  • I am on linux mint on both my laptop and my desktop. I only need my phone to be degoogled and I will be all set.

  • That is also what is freaky.

I remember the halcyon days of 2001 and early 2002 right at the time 9/11 happened. The internet was aflame with all manner of anti-muslim stuff (with many sites and earliest citations of personalities going back to March 2001 for some reason) that labeled the entirety of the Muslim world as so irredeemably ignorant and stuck back in the Middle Ages and trying to bring about an apocalypse or simply acting out of centuries or millennia old hatred and prophecy...

All the while every fucking they were saying was a goddamn projection of their own shit. Zionists at the time claimed they were secular and rooted in the modern world of liberalism and computers while in reality they were far more fundamentalist into their own religion and religious prophecies than any Muslim group.

Also they loved to claim that the entirety of the Muslim world was a carbon copy of rural Taliban controlled Afghanistan when nothing could have been farther than the truth.

Muslim fundamentalism (however you define it) is a major problem. But if I had to put the order of danger that religious fundamentalism faces to the world, it would be on lower orders, compared to American Evangelicalism and Zionist Judaism. As a general rule, the fairly harsh religious views of Saudi Arabia, the gulf states, and Iran are mostly contained there with their governments not really interested in propagating it elsewhere.

Meanwhile you have Americans who literally think they are going to bring out the apocalypse, and people like Eric Prince who want to make an old school style 'free army' like in Medieval Italy and France (that resulted in untold death and misery) and to have modern crusader states where Muslims convert or die.

    Fuck them hard.

  • Religious fascism has been on the rise. All over, yes. But the terrorism of having western countries be bombed due to involvement in Palestine and other places was not inevitable. That has a more direct cause.

I should mention that the first bits of this weren't Islamic at all. The assassination of RFK in 1968 was done by a Christian Palestinian. The Munich Massacre also had secular participants. There was even a Japanese Marxist group involved at one point, and none of whom were Muslim.

  • Why am I not fucking surprised?

  • The sheer barbarity of Israel is incredible. What is even more incredible is how this is actively fucking over western democracy. Israel is willing to throw down every single freedom in the West (from electoral freedom, to freedom speech, to privacy rights... everything) just so they have a few more settlements built on the graves of people they want dead.

The entire war on terror is Israel's fault. I am going to say it. Modern Islamic fundamentalism is a product of the Cold War, but almost every form of modern international terrorism has its roots in Israeli action and the blowback to that.

  • As it stands right now, due to Just_Another_Person's link (https://itsfoss.com/nvidia-linux-mint/) pretty much took care of most of the issues. There is a minor issue with using LM studio and trying to load LLMs offline (privacy... if there is anything I miss about computing in the 90s is that there was very little in terms of any outside company looking into what you were doing on your comp), but that is not a major deal for now. I can use LLMs with small context windows. The large context windows were painfully slow anyway.
