  • Hyperpalatable is a new one for me. Overall I think it's going to be a hard sell to convince people that "food that tastes less good" will be much of a motivation.

As a mom, I think that having a lifestyle where both parents didn't have to rely on multiple jobs and overtime to survive would allow families to enjoy life and not have to seek out bursts of dopamine from the foods they eat as a bandaid.

  • I've got the feeling that Epstein probably made a routine of getting himself close to other rich and famous people for the purpose of befriending and trying to see who would take the bait. I doubt he offered children to everybody who boarded his plane, so he probably started with little things (like a foot massage) then guaged the person's reaction and offered from there. That someone flew on his plane I don't think automatically makes them guilty, but I would look closer at the people who flew in his plane multiple times.

Side note, as a massage therapist toenail fungus is extremely common. Also, the presence of sock fuzzies suggests a brand new pair of socks. If anything, most of the people that I've met that have toenail issues are extremely self-conscious about the way their feet look and aren't very comfortable exposing their feet to strangers. According to the article it was Epstein's idea, so that just makes me wonder if it was part of his game to put Growing in a compromising position for future black mail.

  • Bonus points - she throws some left leaning Democrat "friendly" under the bus at the same time, creating a bigger distraction. "Trump did nothing wrong, but take a look at what THIS guy did over here..."

Don't get me wrong, all the guilty in this mess need to burn. All of them. Whoever they are or wherever they're from, it doesn't matter. But I can absolutely see them cherry picking the right flavor of guilty person to take the heat off of Trump for the time being.

  • Not their responsibility, but if they do speak up people should fucking listen and do something about it.

  • At least he was old. Did they really have to throw in Theo Huxtable?

  • Seriously, I was raised with so much propaganda.

Up until my late twenties I had believed basically everything I was taught in school. I never had reason to question it, as I was basically living in a bubble. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that when the colonists arrived to this country, it wasn't just big empty open spaces that the native Americans gladly shared with us. Funny enough, that's roughly when I gained access to the internet.

  • Please don't include X with the boomers. Since we stepped into the real world and realized it functions completely differently than what we were raised to believe, life's just been a neverending string of "wait, that was wrong too?" We just want to survive another day under the radar.

Sorry fellow X'rs for publicly acknowledging our existence. Hopefully this post doesn't get any upvotes. *Pulls blanket back over my head.

  • The hospital I work at had installed some kind of wipe catcher in most of the publicly accessable toilets. All you can see is a metal ring at the opening at the bottom of the toilet with a sign warning not to put your hand in there or you WILL get shredded. Apparently it has sharp bits that will snag wipes if you attempt to flush them.

  • I work in hospice, everyone's journey is different. As you hear things (some people share stories intending to be well meaning) try to let it slide off. Focus on your families and your needs, and know that there are resources available for assistance and support (social workers, spiritual needs, etc.)

  • A few years back my 19 yo American son had a great experience working the summer as a camp counselor here in the states. It is a religious camp (not that my son is that religion) that draws in campers from the states and Europe. Many of those campers as they get older come back as counselors. They get the appropriate visas, make money working the camp for 8 weeks, then take the few weeks after camp before they have to leave and blow that money on traveling the States and their trip home. It was an incredible experience and inspired my son to bust his ass, save money, and a few years later took a self funded trip to Europe where he couch surfed these homes of the friends he made.

I think about those kids this year. There's no way I'd risk traveling back to this shit hole country if I were them.

  • When I was growing up I never connected that we always had a special "breakfast for dinner" the night before Easter. What was happening is that my parents would carefully crack one end of a dozen eggs to preserve the majority of the shell, and wash them. After lightly baking the empty shells to make sure they were dry/sanitary, my dad would fill them with a candy mix (M&Ms, Skittles, peanuts, mints) then seal the egg with royal icing and dry. These eggs would be hidden in random places throughout the house. Little kid me never questioned the arrival of the eggs, but enjoyed smashing the shell and spilling the candy out.

By the time I had kids, the best I could muster is plastic shells we would fill with candy and toys. My kids still had fun and I just reused the shells year after year.

  • I just build ovens for a living, I didn't think they'd actually use them.

  • The student doesn't pay for highschool, but there are still fees. My income was low enough that they waived the (roughly) $500-700 a year though. They based it off the paperwork to qualify for free/reduced lunches.

  • I batch cook steel cut oats in a rice cooker every weekend, 50/50 water/milk. The kids previously rejected instant rolled oats, but actually like steel cut!

  • Hell I'm generally fine with eye contact, but if I actually want to pause to put thought into an answer, I will absolutely look away so I can get in my head and think!
