  • It's not just that, it's the whole style of it. Just found it pretentious, and if the ending is the only thing that makes the film worth it, I don't think it's a good film

  • I'd already had the ending spoiled, and after watching an hour I thought the ending was a bit obvious.

  • I think you're remembering the Spike and Buffy scene wrong, she's sobbing and pleading with him to stop as he's saying unhinged and creepy things see here. I totally agree, I hope they don't have SA as plot points, it's cheap writing

I'll take anything at this point

  • Comic Strips @lemmy.world

    It's a fair point

  • I looovveeeedd the first film so I'm really excited about this. My predictions:

    1. Ralph Fiennes dies protecting Spike
    2. Dad dies looking for Spike
    3. Samsun has some kind of big role, possibly overthrowing the Jimmies with Ralph.
    4. I sob hysterically when Ralph dies

    Run!

  • It's fine eight, the Internet is lousy at conveying tone and you get people that say all sorts on it. I really appreciate your detailed comment and apology it's really nice of you.

For me inorganic representation is things like the 90s show cast...it very much seemed like the producers criteria was to cast an actor from each ethnic group, the actors didn't particularly gel and the characters just wouldn't hang out if they were real. It also wasn't realistic to have a young, openly gay asian male in a small town in the 90s and there to be virtually no awkwardness over it. It's patronising and obvious... and yet they still picked a light skinned black girl! That smacked of saying "we'll have one that's black but not too black".

  • Yep rape and VAWAG was badly handled on the show.

  • Yep, wokeness to me isn't inclusivity, I usually find it patronising. I agree with you, it was atrociously handled eg when Spike tried to rape Buffy and very little was done with it. I'm concerned it's going to be really OTT, clunking corrections. Especially as they're in the shadow of the Joss Whedon allegations...

  • A lot of gay women come out after having had boyfriends, so I don't find that a hard pivot. Your idea of inorganic representation and mine are different, and I'm concerned that you could be making assumptions about my thoughts. Honestly, the tone of your comment reads as a little hostile. Come back to me when you'd like to discuss it in a more constructive manner ❤️

  • You're arguing against things I've never said.

  • Where did I say it should be the opposite of woke?

  • I see it differently. As a disabled lgbt female I'm passionate about inclusion and representation in media. However, some modern shows put inorganic representation in, a lot of politics, and try desperately to be woke. I find it doesn't work, and it's often patronising and insulting. A lot of people who tune into the new Buffy show will presumably do it because they watched the show at the time. If it's aimed predominantly at Gen Z, then they're cutting out a lot of their viewers and longtime fans. I feel that would be the wrong choice.

  • I'll be honest I'm not hopeful about this one. I've a horrible feeling it's going to be overly woke and aimed at Gen Z
