Ahh yeah the price is a waiting game for me, Apple products hold onto their value and for me having the bleeding edge isn’t what I’m chasing these days.
Guess I’ll wait and see how the Qualcomm products go on the used market for their price.
I got my 4800hs for a steal; maybe I need to aim lower.
Linux on Qualcomm laptops really that bad? I’ve been considering a purchase of a 1st gen once the 2nd gen comes out (probably grab an ex display model on the cheap).
I’ve not been following developments closely enough, but I know the battery life (in windows at least) is tiers better than my current 4800hs / 1650 with 65% battery health.
I’ve too considered a MacBook, but their never within my budget for the spec that I want, guess I was too hopeful about Qualcomm laptops 😞
Gives me Sonos vibes.
I won a Sonos speaker years ago, thing needed (from memory) an app to switch to AUX mode. The speaker sounded great but I didn’t want to install an app just to use the thing.
In a grand spectacle my ex’s cat kicked a potplant off a windowsill into our fish tank. That shorted a power board, we didn’t have breakers (ceramic / wire fuses) which ended up killing the speaker.
Honestly as nice of a speaker it was, good riddance.
Works for my Logi mouse, was very happy when I found the package (thanks nixpkgs search)
Ratbagd / Piper doesn’t work for your mouse?
Was another perk switching to Linux, my keyboard I can bake in profiles (using a windows VM) then dispose of that VM once my keyboard is setup the way I wanted.
SteelSeries software is horrendous, up there with the Razer.
Man the Logi settings app was utter trash, so slow to run or even change settings.
Ratbagd + Piper gave me the ability to change my DPI (no switch on the super light) without any bloat.
Pornhub, or touching grass. Either order really.
I’d been paying for premium YouTube for a few years, the family plan had a massive spike in price and I’d had enough from there. Been using Grayjay for the past few months only watching a couple of channels, but if this goes live it will kill the platform for me.
The bundled YouTube music sub really doesn’t sell it for me either, sure it’s got some more niche music compared to other platforms but it’s not a drop-in replacement (especially for the better half).
All and all I’m probably one of the few that will tap out of the platform, will be interesting to see the fallout.
I use NixOS for all my systems now, single config covers two servers, laptop, notebook and desktop.
Containers aren’t something to be afraid of, I’ve found nix + podman to be super easy to use / configure, so much it’s a copy / paste a config from another container with some small directory changes.
If you are not someone who likes using a terminal perhaps nix isn’t for you. I’ve found forcing the terminal & configuring via nix has given me much more insight into my machines / os than ever before. If you’ve got the time to mess with Nix I’d recommend it.
If that sounds like a bunch of effort and time to get something that may be easier via another method, I’d say Proxmox is the way to go.
Running through my config I’ve just noticed that I’ve got an IP conflict that I wasn’t aware of, but makes total sense right now 😅
Pls provide source code.
Yeah NUT is the package I’ve been looking at, and looks decently integrated into NixOS just, getting around to configuring it is another time sink.
My 1920R and an unused 15A Dell rackmount (h967n maybe) came with my rack, I’ve got no reason to have two UPS running nor do I want to replace the batteries in another UPS or have a 15A socket installed in the house just yet. But man it’s tempting to piggy-back it off the 1920R for shits and giggles.
Waiting on some parts to arrive from AliExpress - once they arrive I’ll be able to decommission one of my servers and have all my services running off one board.
I’ve wanted to implement something like that with my 1920R UPS for my rack but haven’t found the time to commit to antiquated hardware.
Was enough of a hassle dealing with the expired SSL certs on the management card yet getting software running on one of my machines to communicate with the UPS.
All things considered my two servers chilling chew around 60w on average, not taking into account my POE cameras or other devices. The UPS should run for over a day without getting close to draining its batteries (have a half populated ebm too).
Not the same form factor and around twice the price, erying es intel motherboards are a steal at their current price. You do need RAM / Storage / ATX PSU they end up a much more performant’ piece of hardware.
The Q1J2 (20 threads) board I have despite it being an ES chip has given me no issues. Running most of my home services on the board with a coral nvme m.2 + nvme + sata storage. Can even do dual ethernet via the a+e m.2 and add-in more sata storage via m.2 to 6x sata board.
I’ve got a pi somewhere in the mounds of boards at home, but would rather spin up another container / pod / nspawn on my erying board vs go through the motions of setting up a pi.
Honestly looks like the carton was in the sun letting them sag like that, the “air” in the bag is probably nitrogen or another gas to help keep them shelf stable. It will also help protect them during shipping keeping the bag rigid.
Story about the sun, we had cartons of ddr4 sitting in the Western Australia sun during CV19, not for a long duration of time. When we unpacked the plastic clamshells were warped, some to the point where the modules were escaping the packaging. No damage to the products, just an annoyance.
Yeah my golf gets most shit moved, really want a tow ball installed so I don’t need to steal my partner’s car for heavier / larger jobs.
Pavement Princess or emotional support vehicle. Really hate the area I live in currently, my street is cluttered with them.
They call it the batchelors plate.
Oh man, brings me back to blackbox / xoblite on my old XP machine.
I remember using notepad to change the config files, no auto formatting or error checking.
Had no idea what I wanted out of it but I loved the minimal aesthetic.
There are far too many loopholes for me not to hate companies be they small or large.
In Australia, “family trusts” are a sure way to write off a good chunk of your expenses (groceries, fuel and so on) while paying yourself a wage. If you really want you can cook the books taking cash sales for yourself too.
Don’t forget about “taking” whatever you want from the company, and writing that off as a loss.
Maybe I should hate people, but in a vacuum people are reasonable, logical and honorable. But once we introduce a “well maybe” or an “but what if I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking?” my view of people becomes skewed.
I guess, I wanted to vent about how fucked everything seems to be and that I feel powerless to do anything about it. GameStop as a company probably deserve the rocks in boxes, Amazon deserve them too, all because people are running those companies.
I’m not above greed, but I’d like to think / feel that I put out more than I take and it seems quite uncommon in our modern society.
