  • AI will be amazing for manufacturing consent: whatever narrative you need to push/counter on this particular day, just add a sentence into the instruction and it'll propagate everywhere, from generated to suggested content.

If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — for ever.

  • they had reusable poop sponges what more do you want??

  • I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

  • US has more people imprisoned than China. Not per capita, total.

    Yep

  • Both are tribalism of different levels of intensity. Our brains are predisposed for us-them mentality, some stronger than others, some can leave it behind others never will. It's also the most exploitable feeling in the history of our species, with fear may be the close contender.

Obviously a government embracing tribalism leads to horrid shit (everyone without an armband knows it) BUT ignoring it completely allows something else snake its way into that void. If you're lucky its something vegetarian like football hooliganism, if you-re not -- pan-nationalism, religious zealotry, whatever the 4chan incel shit is, people who can't or won't leave tribal mentality will find a dirt to roll in.

IMHO it is worth considering implementing a civic religion a-la french republicanism. Yes it can be a gateway to nationalism, but it also lets tribal minded people wave their flags and "guard the civic values" or whatever while the rest of us continue our lives in peace. As a bonus it improves civic participation and if you're attacked -- well there's already something for you to rally around.

  • I see you missed the dark brandon saga :) it was quite the time, so no its not maga only, and its not even an insult

Did the voter population elected a fascist because people with "a 'tude" kept rolling their eyes at a centrist grandgran running for office? Highly doubt it.

  • I agree let's give the average american what he wants and bring Brandon back. It's not joever yet!

  • I want to say to all the "this could never happen to my country, we remember history"-people:

Yes it could. One economic crisis too many; a few gifted power hungry ghouls in the wrong place; hundreds little comprimises taken by establishment to preserve the status quo -- and you will find your neighbours tolerating (and even welcoming) oppression of the less fortunate.

    No society is immune.

  • In what world is that risk comparable to cigarettes?

Even comparing it to junk food is a stretch, and nobody suggests we put age verification on chips.

  • Is there a paper linking gooning to cancer, why would you compare those things

  • Fam have you seen evaluations of AI companies. For the amount of venture capital poured into openai, their profit should 20x or it'll take a century for the investments to recoup. The reason for why they keep investing is that the AI is supposed to blow up the market and earn gazillions back.

Everyone agrees ML is extremely useful. Most people also agree that LLMs have their uses too.

What we don't agree is that AI is the printing press, electricity and the internet rolled into one. And if it isn't, then all this investment is made under false pretense, hence it is a bubble

  • Oh, that's cause YouTube is blocking a lot of unsigned requests (from non-logged users). I have my own VPN on a popular VM provider and it's blocked too.

Not really a newpipe fault, and not much to be done unfortunately.

  • Reality has sapped all the hope for the future out of me

  • Samsung

It absolutely won't be. Best case It'll be a white label from local Chinese brands like Oppo, worst case -- a no-name company selling 150$ phones on alibaba. I'd put my money on the latter, the margins will be much better.

Great scam for a washed up celebrity with a cult following.

  • This is like a Roman Legion being sponsored by a fire insurance scam

  • If you can afford to spend 10 bucks a month for a search engine, Kagi is pretty sleek. No ads, you can block/prioritize websites, good bangs, convinient CSS field for easy modding.

It does AI stuff too, but it's optional as the other non-standard search output fields.

  • I wonder if it creates more inhouse sysadmin jobs? When you buy a license from M$ you also get tech support. But if you have problems with open source, you gotta go get a computer person

  • Couldnt be me, I'm the head empty goblin girl and my motivation is chaos
