Agreed, but small farms barely exist anymore. When you read that story about a small farmer getting pissed because Trump isn't hurting the right people, remember that they own millions of dollars of equipment and land.
Why are people arrested? So many reasons. Cops are stupid and racist covers a good bit. Now more than anytime since slavery. There's also the huge prison-industrial complex which makes big bucks keeping prisons filled.
Americans do not know that it is different. I saw something once that the vast majority of Americans die within 50 miles of where they were born. I'm of the opinion that travel cures ignorance, but most people just don't really do it. First off it can be expensive, and secondly going on a cruise doesn't count, I don't care if you got off the boat in Jamaica for three hours and bought some trash in a confined area. Sorry, but you haven't been to Jamaica.
Do you think there's much of a correlation between quality of people's character and whether or not they've been arrested? Also I never mentioned prison but there are plenty of fine folks in the big house too.
I was reading your comment, trying to decide if you're a liar or just that bougie. Then second paragraph. Most of my friends have been arrested at least once. I've been four times.
It is important here to note that in the US, prison is for sentences over one year and jail is under one year. That is not strictly 100% true but it's good enough to sort out the jail/prison terms problem. I've only been to prison to do some work. It was maximum security for what it's worth, and it was much nicer than any jail I've been too. People acted normally instead of totally fucking unhinged.
I'd rather do a year in prison than six months in jail.
As a US citizen, yes my country sucks. It has sucked before and it's sucking just about as hard as it has since the trail of tears. I am embarrassed by my nation's leaders abetting genocide, defunding aid programs, putting people who live here in prison for the crime of existing, refusing to tax the rich or corporations, etc etc.
But there are a shit ton of us that aren't like that. We have a totally fucked election system, a flawed and vague constitution, and fascists in every branch of government.
It's really not all of us, I swear, and not by a long shot.
I have met a shocking number of Trump voters who really like or liked Bernie Sanders. That number is four, but it's still shocking and I don't go out much. Obviously they aren't paying much attention to policy or reality, but I wonder how common this is? My father-in-law is one.
Is it really most states? I'm in an extremely conservative state. I refuse to join a political party. I'm allowed to vote in the Democrats' primary, but not the Republicans'.
If you are in this situation, please vote in the primary after learning about the local candidates.
There is one big thing- You must ask for the Democratic Party Ballot. I was used to getting it by default and was disenfranchised in 2008 by being given the no affiliation ballot. I realized it when I got to the machine and was not allowed to change. I left yelling about it, like that did any good.
The both sides bitchers aren't 90% of Lemmy, not even close. They've just got loud mouths. Usually I see downvotes on this type shit and see someone challenging them.
I think after so many didn't vote because of both sides genocide, and have seen what they caused, they've shut the fuck up a good bit compared to election season. A lot of those were probably ops anyway.
T-Bag is like a Captain Planet villain. He's tilting at windmills again.
