Wow that takes me back lol
This isn’t entirely the fault of the FTC, much of the underlying problems are because of the courts.
The FTC under Biden has been going after many different industries, from aviation to publishing, while the DoJ has been trying to stop mergers in fields such as healthcare and food. Both the FTC and DoJ have lost many cases in the courts in recent years. For example, the DoJ went after chicken producers for price fixing, but the jury ruled that they were innocent. Both the DoJ and the FTC lost over half a dozen cases just last year.[1](https://www.reuters.com/legal/us-keeps-losing-antitrust-court-battles-few-expect-pullback-2022-10-04/)
It’s become pretty common for companies to prepare for litigation, they no longer believe that cooperating with antitrust agencies to negotiate a settlement is feasible under the current administration.
The current administration is litigating most mergers, and has had some success. For example the DoJ successfully stopped both Lockheed Martin and NVIDIA from buying competitors while the FTC blocked healtchare company mergers in some states.
But now the Supreme Court has passed a decision that would allow companies to shop for judges so that they can challenge the constitutional authority of federal regulators like the FTC and EPA.[2](https://news.bloomberglaw.com/antitrust/federal-agencies-face-constitutional-fights-after-high-court-loss)

Steve Huffman just following the footsteps of Elon Musk, during a recent interview Spez said he liked what Musk was doing with Twitter.
Twitter has lost 59% of their advertisement sales since Musk bought it.[1](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/05/technology/twitter-ad-sales-musk.html)

Yep, it’s really me! I made my first sourced comment the other day about Twitter and Elon Musk.
I made an account on sh.itjust.works because world was having some issues registering new users. Because of this small issue I ended up taking a deep dive into learning about the Fediverse. It’s such a cool concept and really easy to use once you familiarize yourself with it.
It’s also awesome that instances can federate with one another, so communities can continue to grow! I was apprehensive of making the switch initially due to the presumption that it would require a steep learning curve, but I learned how to access, browse, and interact on lemmy in 15 minutes or less lol.
I keep mentioning it, but the fediverse reminds me of my early days of browsing reddit back in the mid-late 2000s. Lemmy feels like home and I can’t wait to see it grow :)
An internet/social media recession, we’re truly living in the 21st century.
I’m in a similar position when it comes to sports, football (soccer) in particular. The instances are still new, so I’ve been trying to engage in the comments and upvoting all the posts. It oddly reminds me of early Reddit when there were far fewer users and it felt more intimate, like you’d know everyone on the sports subreddit lol. I think instance on the Fediverse/Lemmy will continue to grow over time, just keep engaging :)
Thank you talklittle! You made redditing so enjoyable with RiF. I was introduced to your app about a decade ago and never stopped using it. I spent years writing exhaustive and informative comments, none of it would’ve been possible without the functionality of RiF.
I’m glad to see you on the Fediverse now :)
I used Twitter for all my local updates - from what’s happening at city hall to live traffic and weather updates.
What’s up with CEO’s messing with social media companies. Huffman and Musk seem to enjoy ruining good things :(
It’s like they say - birds of a feather flock together
Feel free to check out my comment history to compare. Not sure how else to prove it, sorry :S
I love exploring all the communities. It’s been a fun ride so far and a super positive experience!
Hey this is pretty cool, maybe I’ll get back into gaming during my summer vacation. Thanks for sharing!
I’m a RiF refugee too. Used it for almost a decade, now that it’s gone I find the official app to be very difficult to use.
The Fediverse has been really cool and I’m glad I took the jump. I was apprehensive at first, but I’ve found Lemmy to be pretty fun so far!
Thanks for the run down, appreciate the detailed explanation! Great idea about finding mirror communities from Reddit.
One thing to note is that Lemmy is growing so fast that you’ll often find more than one community about the same topic, so don’t be shy about subscribing to somewhat duplicative communities until one comes out on top.
This bring back fond memories of browsing early Reddit lol
Hello! I’m still familiarizing myself with the fediverse and Lemmy, but I look forward to contributing once I’m comfortable.
I hope formatting commands are similar to old reddit, I do love my citations :)
Can’t wait! I’m currently using Jerboa and it’s pretty good so far, but I’m definitely trying Sync once it’s out
Hello, I just migrated from Reddit and am slowly figuring things out. I’m really enjoying Lemmy and the Fediverse so far!
Are there any communities I should subscribe to? If anyone has suggestions please list them out below, thanks!
Hey o/
Yea truth be told I still visit r/soccer and r/reddevils to catch up on football related news every morning/evening. The communities on Lemmy are still growing and while the more popular communities are very active, niche communities like sports will take some time.
Check out the football community on Lemmy, it’s starting to get active. I’ve recently started posting too.
I’m not sure how to link directly to a community, so here’s a link to one of my posts. You can click on the community and subscribe https://sh.itjust.works/post/701657
