  • I think they perceive it as a threat to their...skill? If everyone can casually swap out parts without any effort nor risk, it invalidates the experience of the people who had the will and ability to perform the work. Also, it might be a case of "it was always done like this." Many computer nerds from the 90's are now approaching or beyond their forties. Getting old sucks, since the things from childhood tend to fade away, replaced by something new and alien.

That is my guess. Short of obtaining the disturbing ability to read minds through the internet, I have to make assumptions.

  • I think the way forward is to create a hybrid of socialism and capitalism - the social to address all basic needs of people, such as healthcare, generic food, a boring car, free shelter, utilities, ect. Capitalism should be solely reserved for luxuries, such as yachts, vacations, fancy meals, figurines, art, media, and so on.

It is my belief that capitalism is an optimization method, but like all optimizations, it can detract from the results if it exists for its own sake, rather than to facilitate the goal. In the case of society, that would be to promote goods and services that help individuals grow as humans.

We don't want merch of a given fulfillment to be given to everyone, because not everyone is a fan of HP Lovecraft or My Little Pony, so that would waste lots of resources if we didn't have capitalism to adjust their supply for cultural demands. However, all humans need to eat, rest, and have agency. In such a case, it is much better to "waste" resources to make sure everyone does alright.

  • I would count each of those as a -1 to job stats. Anti-woke jackasses are worse than nothing, I expect.

  • My swimming trunks has pockets. Does that count as underpants?

  • To not fight is compliance in advance, which is a great source of power and comfort for fascism.

Further, it isn't likely for the whole of the American military to be aligned with the Trump Regime. Odds are that we will have a civil war - and one side will have minorities serving, many of whom are competent people who have been exiled by the Trump Regime from all sectors of government: Military, intelligence, bureaucratic, and more. Already, the west coast Blue States are forming their own vaccine coalition to replace the loss of Federal services. That is the sign of an upcoming secession, as the Blue States form mutual services that are not dependent on the support of the Trump Regime.

Aside from all of that, America historically had difficulty against guerillas, whom tend to have small arms and communities. Freedom fighters within America's borders are likely to be even more successful than their foreign peers, simply because ICE would run the risk of turning entire cities or states against the government. Foreign guerillas couldn't quickly influence the politics of America much, because they aren't American nor close to home.

  • Trans folks, get your guns while you can. They might be the difference between freedom or going to RFK's "wellness" farms. As an autistic who will someday be targeted, I intend to stand on the line of battle with you.

  • I think having a pipeline of official service would be good. Here is a concept for that:

After your first term is completed, you can elect to either run for a second term, or to be promoted to the higher level. If you get promoted, you can't have a second term on a lower level, so your career gets shorter if you move up the ladder quickly. However, if you fail to be elected to the higher post, you are barred from taking a 2nd term of your prior offices. This is a "are you sure people like you?" mechanism that theoretically would cull bad politicians from holding onto political power forever.

Mayor -> State legislature -> national congress -> president, something like that. Assuming one term for each posting, that would be 12 years of service before getting a chance at being president. 24 years of political presence if you took two full terms for each post. A politician can opt to have a glorious but short career, or to take a longer and more surer route that yields better odds of getting into the highest office.

  • No, a PC ecosystem where all the parts are shrouded and there are no wires to futz with.

It isn't unrealistic - the original Starfox and Yoshi's Island games were on cartridges, which included 3D acceleration (Super FX) hardware that increased the performance over the standard SNES. For the player to use it, all they had to do was just insert the cart into the SNES and start playing. The Nintendo 64 also had RAM expansion Paks that plugged into the machine, doubling the RAM to a massive 8 megabytes, in less than 10 seconds.

  • Luigi's Mansion could use some new residents...

  • It is very strange for how when I call for age limits on our politicians, that people say it is unfair or ageist. Honestly, I find that weird, because age and all the issues that comes with it, will find us.

  • If PC customization was casualized, you might end up with more choices. If people are mentally blocked from putting together a custom system due to fear, that disincentives companies from being in the market. I know that I would consider the odd upgrade every couple of years, if FUD wasn't making that feel like a bad thing to try.

  • I have built at least three machines, and I hate it. My hands tend to shake, and I worry when I drop a screw into the motherboard or trying to figure out how to wind a wire into position without causing damage. I am not a rich man, and fear losing money or my data if I mess up.

Honestly, I dislike your position, it sounds like a humble brag.

  • I am hoping this ends up being a PC hardware ecosystem, where each component is a cartridge or LEGO brick. Just pull out the power supply, RAM, GPU, or CPU, and slot in another, without worrying about breaking something or technical details. No need to dig your paws into the flesh of the machine and hope your rocket surgery skills are up to the task.

  • More importantly, Cascadia is a fine name, even if it wasn't attached to anything. A name that is pretty, distinct, and rolls off the tongue are all good features to have.

  • MAGA intends to inflict pain anyways. Might as well withstand that punishment and return it twice over.

  • The wheels of secession have begun to turn...

Good. Here's hoping that New York and other blue states on the east coast join in.

  • What she wanted to REALLY say: "woke LA was burned down by Trump's National Guard deployment."

  • Those will be pointed north of the border, I expect. The greatest threat to fascism is native opposition, so Dogey America will murder anyone who dares to get in the way. It won't be surprising if fire departments, hospitals, empathetic churches, and other "woke" elements of society are besieged.

After all, the federal government arrested a pair of fire fighters who were actively fighting fires. The Regime values the spilled blood of others above morality and pragmatism.

  • Should have been riding in a cybertruck...click, FWWOOOSH.
