I’m not sure they can. What can they do? I doubt they’ll replace moderators with paid Reddit workers. The alternative is to replace them with other power hungry moderators who will bend a knee to the Reddit admins. That might work on some major subreddits but the PR of that might cause more damage.
I think the admins hoped it would have blown over by now. If it’s still going on by September I bet they’ll need to do something.
I’ve been slowly trying to transition to Lemmy with this in mind. After June 30th, RIF won’t be working and I don’t plan on installing the official app so I’m trying to get adjusted to Lemmy before then.

This could be anywhere from news articles being buried/promoted or by hidden advertising within a post.
They associated the debris they found earlier to be from the sub which pretty much confirms the implosion.

There are enough reposts to keep them busy for a while I think. I swear the same post would get reposted a few weeks after the original and get just as many or more upvotes than the first time. And the top comments were usually the same or similar.
