  • Yeah. Unpopular opinion, I know, but I really like alignment. It’s pretty easy to say “puts self above others” = evil and “puts others before self” = good.

My quick version of law v chaos is “puts societal structure above individual freedom” = law and “puts individual freedom above societal structure”.

Feels like a framework closer to how people actually behave and doesn’t invite in-party conflict.

  • Apologies for the wall of text.

Ehhh almost. The best Disney era stuff has been Mandalorian (S1) and Andor, which had, at best, Filoni consulting. Filoni’s stuff is good quality but it’s also fairly simplistic and self-referential, to the point of being almost masturbatory. I think Clone Wars is the best he’s produced and it’s 95% awful kids show with 5% very high quality storytelling mixed in, but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt since it was literally intended as a kids show.

Prequels and sequels were pretty terrible for opposite reasons, as another poster has already mentioned. The original trilogy is pretty high quality, I don’t think that’s even debatable. While New Hope was a pretty bog-standard chosen one/heroic epic story, and maybe/definitely just a rip-off of Hidden Fortress, it gets all the credit for the blend of Eastern and Western themes and concepts. Additionally, for absolutely stunning special effects for the era. Empire is just objectively a good movie, and is definitely when Star Wars peaked. It’s got excellent writing, directing, and cinematography, and did a phenomenal job maintaining the strengths of New Hope while doing a ton of work developing all of the characters and the universe. Jedi is… okay tbh. I put it about on par with the prequels although the Emperor is my favorite character.

The biggest problem imo with the Disney products lately is exactly that - they are clearly products intended only to capitalize on an already-successful IP, with nothing really to say nor any story to tell. Filoni doesn’t have this problem, but he does have the issues above. If Disney can focus on letting creatives tell the stories they want to tell in the Star Wars Universe instead of just churning out products, I think they’ll be okay.

  • I think the worst part about this starter pack is that, not only is it mostly useless garbage, new players (who this targets) have no idea this is mostly useless garbage. They surely don’t even know you can only equip one of these weapons at a time, let alone that they are far from meta.

D2 is just the absolute most miserable experience for new players and Bungie consistently makes it worse. It’s baffling. Meanwhile, they try to milk their veteran players more and more every season by offering more for money, less for free, and making the game more of a grind.

The best part about Destiny 2 is it has personally put me on a hard line against any kind of live service game for the foreseeable future.

  • Nah, this totally makes sense. Revivify costs 300 gp, which is about 5 months of work for a skilled hireling (or 4 years for an unskilled one). Laws are only for the poor.

If you convert to the relative value of labor instead of the real life value of diamonds, it’s probably something like $40k to $60k to revivify someone. Seems like enough cash on hand to somehow get away with murder.

  • I think that’s possible and can certainly be your head canon or what you run at your table.

That said, I believe the connections between the two are entirely due to the githyanki’s enslavement by the illithids. Learning the wrong lessons from their oppressors is a sad, but not unbelievable, outcome. The note about aboleths is interesting but I’m not familiar enough with their lore to effectively speculate why they would not know about illithids - perhaps they just didn’t come into contact with them until the height of the illithid empire.

This kind of lore stuff is why I stick to homebrew tbh

  • I think that’s a fair argument though I would expect a civilization that advanced and widespread to have adopted standard measures of time. Which I previously would have assumed a “year” to mean something like a full solar orbit of coruscant. There’s no reason for there not to be multiple standards, though, but it would be nice if that’s what they were going for they didn’t just say “year”.

  • Oh hey, it’s me. After a solid hiatus, I came back to the game just before Beyond Light but this season had to step away, possibly for good. For me, it wasn’t just how terrible Lightfall was (and it is terrible). I don’t even care about PvP being neglected, though that is a huge L for that crowd. For me it’s just the hyper aggressive escalation of their monetization for the game. And frankly, I thank them for it because after Destiny 2, I’m adding “live service” to the list of criteria that make me dodge a game entirely. I’m not an ATM, I’m just here to enjoy a game.
