  • IMAX runs in general tend to be short, because the theaters need to make room for the next movie showing in IMAX.

    I think only Christopher Nolan has that kind of pull in the industry to demand exclusivity to IMAX. It sucks, but the only guaranteed way to see IMAX movies is on opening weekend (or hope for a re-release).

  • There aren't that many IMAX 70mm theaters in the world (less than 100, I think, and there are only 30 in the US). Christopher Nolan is an extremely popular director known for utilizing IMAX 70mm, so his movies tend to sell out in this format a lot. As we get closer to the release date, I'm certain they'll add more showtimes, this marketing stunt is to prove the viability of creating and distributing IMAX 70mm prints.
