Sillan alla on tilaa meille kaikille

  • The biggest group affected are most likely ciswomen, since people love to control how women look and act, and there's just way, way less transwomen in the toilets. Meaning the most commonly happening effect of these crazy bathroom laws is basically punishing ciswomen for not looking feminine enough

  • Everything about that is just fucking awful. And who even makes a toilet with no stalls?! Do men not need to shit? Wtf

  • Sure the pieces of land don't matter to but the ukrainians, but if Putin gains anything it'll signal to his own that he won and that attacking works. At this point any security guarantees mean basically nothing since the west has shown such a weak response, and Putin will just challenge the promises the moment he has the opportunity. Seeing how USA and western Europe still don't seem to fully understand the situation, it's easy to believe Ukraine can't trust any guarantees given unless it's something like straight up joining NATO, which isn't on the table.

  • If Putin gains parts of Ukraine, the war will not end. It means he succeeded in the war; that the west is weak. Which in turn means the war will "end" as in Russia will just regroup and build it's war resources for a while - maybe some years, maybe more, maybe less - and then attack somewhere again. Why would they stop? Russian imperialism is not based on logic or reason; it was insane to attack Ukraine in the first place.

It is pointless to expect Putin to be somehow reasonable or actively want to stop warring. It is also completely pointless to believe whatever he or his lackeys say, they've lied from every step on the way and will continue to do so for their own benefit. It's very likely the war will continue whatever the result in Ukraine is anyway, it can only be postponed now that Russia has again started on this damned path. If Putin gains land, they won and it'll continue; if they don't gain anything, Putin needs to attack again to prove it wasn't a loss. I cannot believe people still seem to think you can somehow just reason with Russia

  • I'd say one problem is also that the characters being "race swapped" are typically the less-important sidekicks or something. "Sure, we can put more color in there - but they can't be too important as characters" seems somehow almost more racist than just following the original stories. Why not swap the main characters if they're going to change things? I don't usually mind, if they put in any effort sometimes the changes improve the story and even the characters themselves.

(And that was a rhetorical question, I know they won't because...... racism usually)

  • Insult to injury. Soothes the sense of justice to imagine the humiliation and anger nazis could have felt when taken to the gallows

  • Yeah, one can't exactly control being born in poverty, health issues, accidents... the list goes on. It's true though that you can still try with whatever you got. Climbing a tree is not reaching the sky, but it is off the ground

  • "Hey why don't you use this tool you don't need? It does the thing worse than you do and also fucks up the planet in the process!"

  • I agree., denying someones humanity is kinda how genocides get going. I have no pity for genociders or their supporters and I'd also rather more people won't become like them

  • I honestly thought it was, I guess I can still have too high expectations of people. If they're not even seeking the adrenaline rush from the danger, it's like extra mega ultra omega level of pathetic instead of just extremely pathetic

  • Often the individual animals preying on humans have some sort of health problem or something along the lines, making them desperate and thus continuously dangerous - so it is easy to pretend we don't do it for vengeance too. There's also the weird still lingering belief that once an animal has tasted human blood they'll want more. Humans like to believe we're not controlled by instinct and make up explanations for why not, but our actions have more truth than our words

  • I say this as someone from the overseas (for the context): from here it looks like you are living in a fascist takeover. I can't say what you can or should do about it - what do I know. But you have a dictator in the making, your court system looks to be failing in preventing anything, you even have the fucking gestapo now. Your vulnerable groups are already either being taken or basically being prepared to be taken. Scientists and researchers are leaving. It's only a matter of time when they start coming for dissidents...

Maybe I am wrong, I hope I am wrong - and again what do I know, basically nothing. But it is looking bad

  • gasoline (any grade) and Styrofoam

And just so no-one has to google this either; it forms a napalm-like substance that sticks well and burns, so definitely something very dangerous that shouldn't be tried under any normal circumstances

  • Oh for sure, it's not fruitful at all. But it is understandably human nonetheless, I doubt anyone being taken by the fascists care much about the difference between people who voted for them to be able to do it and those who didn't vote to prevent it

  • OP could be a bot and it doesn't still negate the point. I can imagine there's plenty of people affected who probably feel something along the lines

  • It's a good question and I personally love discussions about morality. Still, I'd like to raise up another angle that seems to be where OP has started this thread: How do the people in the imminent danger feel? It's easy to talk about morality, but in the actual human level the people being affected right now don't really get the luxyry to view it that way, they just are in imminent danger.

When you are in a group that stands in the lowest levels of the ladder (immigrant, disabled, us transfolks etc.), it is very much personal. We're the ones who will be always taken first when the fascists get in power, while others can still have a debate about it

  • To be fair it sounds like OP feels betrayed, and is kinda scared about ending up in a death camp (and it's insane they have a legitimate fear about that, wtf USA?!). It's easy to point at nazis and say it's their fault (it is), but they weren't your allies in the first place and didn't betray you, they said they'd throw you in the death camp. Your allies were the ones that could have saved you... and it looks like they chose not to. I'd be raging too

  • Unrelated, but this just brought back memories from long ago when I was a kid and used to watch the advertising channels on purpose. Endless stream of useless gym equipment and weird kitchen tools; they painted such a bizarre and surreal world full of repetition, forced plastic smiles and all sorts of almost otherwordly things that had nothing to do with reality. It was fascinating, almost like watching something of the fae folk

  • If anyone wants civil discussions about antinatalism stuff, the best bet is probably trying to find places that have strict bans on efilist ideologies (those are the "everything should die" people)
