  • That makes so much sense.

My pre pandemic job was amazing because of the people I worked with. They were great fun and we would also go out together at the weekend.

After lockdown load sof people moved on to higher paid roles as did I.

My last 2 jobs have been friendless, even the hybrid one because even if you’re in the office, others are out so you’re still not forming relationships.

It would have worked better if it was an “everybody works from home Monday and Friday” but that removes all the flex…

Today in my remote job I have no work friends, but I also got a dog, spend loads of time with my new friends (neighbours who also have dogs), am completing a full time degree while working full time bacuse I have no commute and generally I’m significantly happier.

My house is actually tidy too because my 5 min breaks are tidy up breaks rather than piss about distracting someone else breaks.

  • I live in the UK and was astounded at the sugar consumption when I visited the US.

The most interesting one was bread - it was so sweet, almost like cake, while our bread is just plan savoury bread.

There seems to be an OTT approach to added sweetness that I thought was bad in the UK but is next level in north America.

Another key difference was the milk in coffee shops. I went into Double cup and found some half and half (semi skimmed milk?) and dumped a bunch of it in my coffee. Nope literally half cream half milk. Blllerchhhh.

That just doesn’t even exist over here.

  • Woman here, and genuinely, I don’t know what’s right.

I can recognise that m>f after puberty gives someone a strength advantage but at the same time it’s hard enough having to transition without feeling even more marginalised by being banned from sports.

Maybe there needs to be just a women’s and open category to recognise the strength handicap that cis women have for certain activities and allow anyone to compete in open, but then there’s the challenge of prize money, viewers etc etc between the two that also needs to be managed appropriately.

At the end of the day, someone isn’t going to be happy and for that there is no good solution, but we need to be doing our best for cis and trans athletes to make sure everyone has a chance to compete in the sports they live.

Chess? Banning trans competitors is fucking idiotic and the chess federation can fuck right off with that implied notion of women being less capable.

  • Me too, I’ll engage for around 15-30 minutes then go and do some writing rather than spend 4 hours doom scrolling.

I’ve legit got so much work done it staggers the mind.

I stopped using Reddit completely on July first, and in that time I’ve got a reflective log completed and submitted, a report on disruptive fintech completed a week early and submitted and now a mini dissertation completed 2 weeks early.

It’s almost as if spending my time doing coursework is better than freaking out trying to finish it and submit to turnitin 30 seconds before the deadline while praying the connection doesn’t fail.

    Anyway…
