20 years ago at a trade show, a new module based visual coding tool was introduced in my field which claimed “You’ll never need another programmer”.
Oddly enough, I still have a job.
The tools have gotten better, but I still write code every day because procedural programming is still the best way to do things.
It is just now reaching the point that we can do some small to medium scale projects with plug and play systems, but only with very specific equipment and configurations.

Over all I agree, with the one major exception being playing a new Fromsoft game. It’s only so often I get to explore a new souls game blind, and that is something I take the time to savor, so long as I can avoid spoilers.
Elden ring was the first one that my girlfriend and I got to play new / blind together, and it was one of the best times I’ve ever had gaming.
We are doing that again with the DLC now and having a great time.
So the man has a stutter, and he’s old, what ever. All I can do is cast my single vote. Last time, I voted against Trump, and honestly, even after the debate, I’ll cast my vote this time for Biden.
I’d much rather cast my vote for Hakeem Jeffries, or Shift, or Bernie, or a dozen other people who aren’t an option.
Thing is, I’m going to cast my vote in Cook county IL, so it literally won’t matter. IL is going blue no matter what, and I feel like my participation is merely token.
I wish I could do more, I want to scream at clouds about what is happening to the country, and it doesn’t matter.
Saw a stat that says Trump is 65% to win, and want to physically grab people and shake them, but what would it matter?
Had I walked into that debate blind, not knowing who those people are, what the “facts” and the facts are, I’d have thought, that Biden guy seems weak and befuddled, and boy that Trump is sure a confident leader. It made me feel sick.
As I told my mother today, I don’t have kids, I live in the midwest, have a good job with a big stable company, truth is, even a second Trump term won’t effect me that much. I can just sit back, enjoy my 30 so years left, and watch the world burn, but damn it, I have empathy for others, and there are many, many people whose lives and livelihood are going to be seriously impacted, and that bothers me.
I just found out last week factorio is on a system that I own. Turns out there was a major addiction missing in my life.
As a programmer, I knew I would enjoy it. What I didn’t realise was that in just a week it would literally make me better at my job.
I’m playing the game, and solving problems for work, I’m working, and solving problems in the game, in a huge feedback loop.
Can a video game make you better person? I’m not sure, but if they can, this and Kerbal Space Program are the ones to do it.
TIL that both Voyager craft are still operating, simply amazing.
Somehow I had missed that Bannerlord has come to consoles, been waiting for this one a long time.
Sequels often disappoint, but so far this one strikes a great balance between keeping what made the original fun, incorporating new ideas, and adding a ton of quality of life features that fix what made the original a bit frustrating.
Obviously porting this kind of game to a controller is a huge task, and over all they did a good job. Some of the map and menu navigation is a bit clunky, but in almost every way it’s better than warband.
Looking forward to never being able to finish this one either.
I really need to get over the early learning curve and get into this game.
I’ve tried a few times and don’t know why it doesn’t engage me.
Give it another try tonight.
In easy mode, maybe. I played it on hardcore permadeath and it took many, many hours to complete it.
Honestly, that was the one suggestion I put that’s likely well over 10, but damn it’s a good game.

Ubisoft made splinter cell, farcry 2, ghost recon, and rocksmith. They did a lot of good things over the years. Problem is, they’ve changed.
Well, now I know why Greedo shot first.
Fallout 3 used RPG mechanics that caused weapon spread based on character stats, so unless you put points into gun skills you’re going to have a hard time by design.
I’ve beaten all three modern games on console both VATS and free aim. Fallout 4 has by far the best shooter mechanics, it’s what ID software does. Iron sites in Vegas certianly helped as an FPS, but it also removed the RPG gun spread and replaced it with requirements to use the various weapons. This made your ability with guns binary, you could either use it or you couldn’t. In 3 it was a progression.
In the end, I guess it just comes down to taste and what you are looking for in the game. Its Bethesda so you know there is going to be jank. The shitty collision objects in 3 were always far more a problem for me than the weapon mechanics.
Having said all that, I’ve been watching the development of this mod for a long time and wish I had a PC to play it on.
That unfortunately is going to be app dependent as far as I know. Your phone can set if a given app will alert you, but for example facebook would have to filter which friend’s notifications get sent.
An app that let you manage notifications by user across multiple platforms would be amazing.
“I don’t want to hear from Jay today” would be an awesome checkbox.
In a documentary made during the 2016 election cycle Trump talks about how much better his PR team is because he doesn’t have to use traditional channels to reach his base, he can just tweet it when ever he wants to tell the world something.
He was very much using twitter as a primary communication channel from the begining, and this time around, he has both twitter and truth social as his basically his own.

The pace of change is about every five years, and some elements are always in transition.
All in one turn key solutions are always one to two cycles behind, so may work great with the stuff I’m already replacing.
I think these are honest attempts to simplify, but by the time they have it sorted its obsolete. If I have to build modules anyway to work with new equipemnt, might as well just write all the code in my native language.
These also tend to be attempts at all in one devices, requiring you to use devices only compatible with those subsystems. I want to be able to use best tech from what ever manufacturer. New and fancy almost always means a command line interface, which again means coding.
