  • You have no idea how many of my closest friends have been to jail for drugs. I think that is a problem with the system, but im not going to go to the opposite end of the spectrum and act like we were being upstanding citizens.

    Getting people addicted to things is bad. It doesn't matter if you are a drug dealer, a casino, or a social media app.

  • A lot of drugs are very addictive and ruin people's lives. I'm well aware a lot of lives were ruined by the stigma attached to to drugs, but to swing from they are evil criminal people to just equating drug dealing with every other job is insane to me.

  • You may not know this but Columbia had departments that used to be one of the loudest voices against Palestinians genocide.

    They were the home of Edward Said, a Palestinian American, who through sheer intellectual force changed an entire academic discipline, by pointing out the majority of Western "Orientialist" studies were nothing more than a thin veneer for racism.

    Few people have done more for me intellectually. That's what makes this such a tragedy. They were the backbone of a nuanced view on the middle east even very recently.

    In came Phil to play the good cop but ultimately ended up being the exact same type of troll, as I interpreted it then. At least he had the exact same type of antagonistic bad faith interpretation of my words.

    Good to know I'm not the only one to think something weird was going on with them. If they aren't the same person, they sure share the same online schedule and biases a lot.

  • I've had a good enough experience with lynx that I gave it it's own alias. Now anytime I want to search i just "ddg anything" and usually I can find the result in want without leaving the terminal.

    I'm sure there are other great uses but that's all I use it for and I love it.
