A lot of cheats weren't actually useful gameplay cheats. My favorites were always the silly ones like big head mode or flying a real car in rogue squadron.
Yeah, if the anticheat is ever compromised, I don't think it's going to patiently wait until you're done playing to fuck up your day. So I don't really see a difference between always-on and sometimes-on kernel anti cheat.
Oh one other thing - it would be cool if you could link to the lemmy post from the site somehow, as I will mostly be using my RSS reader to read the the articles, but if I want to join the comments I'd have to manually find the lemmy post.
I would love to see the articles on both, if it's minimal effort for you. Having them in lemmy without navigating out is such a slick experience. But the site makes RSS super easy too, so I think you'd be giving something significant up if either one went away.
I've been gamin on Linux for over a year with 0 issues, the only games that should be keeping people back are a small handful of competitive games with certain types of anticheat. (Most anticheat does work on Linux)
I'd argue that the backwards compatibility between the 3ds and ds makes the 3ds just as good as the DS if you're counting ds games. Though if we're talking how good the games are of each generation instead of how useful and fun each console is with all available means of play, it might be a different story.
I actually never had one while it was "recent" (I skipped from the ds to the switch) but I've since bought a refurbished one and loaded custom firmware (very simple compared to other consoles) and played some of the top rated games and a few niche ones. I fell in love, and I use it for emulation of other Nintendo consoles up to N64 and all handheld consoles. I'm even working on a full living pokedex using only a 3ds and a switch, which is completely legit using Pokémon bank and Pokémon home and the virtual console, all official Nintendo software.
All of that and it's still nicer to look at for me haha.
