Depending on the area, I don't think I'm going to care much about some rich millionaires' second homes being destroyed. Sure, I don't want to see the erosion and decay of the landscape, but, you know...
I'm saying that because of the way people talk about it. Like you said, it's a platformer. It's not some grand masterpiece combining art and gameplay and philosophy into an experience like no other, but damn if people don't put it on a pedestal.
It's a fun game. People rave about it as if it's a masterpiece, but it didn't change my life or anything. Just go in expecting it to have a difficulty curve and some odd design choices.
I can understand it. A local llm is not only going to be more private than anything ever spoken aloud to another, but there is a giant benefit of it's not like you even have to worry about the effect it will have on the other person. I know my past's trauma would be painful to even listen to, I can't imagine what some folks carry around with them.
Part and parcel of the privacy means you don't have to deal with the judgement or shaming from others. It would be easy to get drawn into the affirming of the llm as well.
There are a lot of ways that the attacker could persist... maybe try a different distro, just to see if it stops? What did you redownload/install when you did your wipe? Do you have any computers on the network besides yours?
Obviously worst case for 'persisting' would be your hardware. Do you have a friend who can plug in or connect to your internet and see if they get the same blocked requests? Maybe try a different router/modem.
So, once upon a time, I got a peek behind the scenes of the automatic readers for license plates. Unless you're living in a very rural area, and I'm talking all you see around you is crop fields or trailer parks and dollar generals, you've probably passed a few of them. That was about 6 years ago, so I would bet there are even more of them out on the roadways now.
You could probably get to bubba's house and hide, but they'll know the general area you're in, down to a twenty mile radius or so .
“If someone rings my doorbell and runs away, they’re targeting my house for a burglary” is a thing lots of people unironically believe.
God help me, I'm going to lose it with the next idiot that I hear this shit from. My parents constantly regurgitate simulacrums of that line. Somehow we've moved on foolish grans mass spamming the emails about people putting tags on your car at the gas station to follow you home... but it's 'moved on' to the insidious new middle-aged twats on facebook losing their minds about shit like kids being kidnapped from their school by secret russian/chinese/iranian/democrat black-ops teams.
It sounds like he’s just a dev who’s in over his head but either doesn’t want anyone to take his baby or doesn’t want people to see his sloppy and possibly insecure code
I'd bet it's a LOT more along the lines of the second guess, because it's now cost his wife her job and has gotten him quite publicly tagged along with it. He's got a large portion of himself invested in it, and of course it will sting and suck for a bunch of folks to come along and point out, both gently and horribly, knowing OSS folks, all the shortcomings and then make changes.
I think the anger over saying 'happy holidays' instead of 'merry christmas' predated that, because christians have found a way to get outraged over everything for a looong time. I was pretty happy just this week that dobson died, because focus on the family underpinned a lot of those sentiments that passed through the american christian sects.
The saying, "Society grows great when old men plant trees under whose shade they know they'll never sit," is pretty well known. Unless you're (mom) looking to pick a fight over some 'bitch, that's a whole new sentence' interpretative inference, SOP's statement can't be taken as ""you're old and you're going to die soon.""
Wasn't there just an article about Gen X folks being a significant part of the reason trump won the vote? I don't think we're heading anywhere good just by generation trends.
Yeah, speaking from the american perspective on population and housing... The 'war on immigrants' (which I'm amazed the clown in chief hasn't started using) is a farce. It fucks up lives, and the rich still pull in more desperate immigrants. It's not about actually lowering the amount of immigrants in the country, its about tossing red meat to their dumb voters, and putting a pervasive fear into anyone who would dare to ask for better working conditions. If ever the population fell enough for the rich to feel any squeeze, they'd just stop patrolling the border as much, conduct slightly less enforcement of visa overstays, and the population would rise just enough.
As for the housing, they'd love to keep buying up residences and turning them into rentals. Folks might die and pass them onto children, but how many of those inheriting the house can suddenly move into it and use it as their primary residence?
