  • Decided to take a look at who was there and two names jumped out to me:

    • Jamie Siminoff of Ring - Not particularly surprising, but notable for a company becoming ubiquitous for personal home surveillance.
    • Lisa Su of AMD - Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I was really hoping there'd be a gpu choice that wasn't outright throwing their lot in with fascists.
  • 2019 Navy SEAL raid [into North Korea].

Not the same boat attack. Not that his answer would probably be any different.

  • From what I can find, BC takes 15% for most sales, 10% for high-sellers. Dunno if that's good or bad, but it seems low to me.

  • I'd argue that non-existence is far less troublesome than the reverse.

  • It's no longer running

Friendly alert that it's currently Bandcamp Friday - one full day that the site gives 100% of purchases to the artists. It's a good way to support small artists and build up a personal collection.

  • I can sympathize with that. I've put down my fair share of games when it just gets too frustrating, even games I was otherwise enjoying. I think a lot of people come at soulslikes with the wrong approach, hence the comment, but for some it just won't click. Unfortunately not all games are for all people. We all have games like that.

  • If you ever feel like giving it (or any other soulslike) another shot, I'd recommend putting less pressure on "beating" it or how much you're "failing". The joy of these games is the process, not (exclusively) the result - learning the sequences, the rhythms, and steadily getting better. That's what these games are all about. If you're just rushing to beat everything as fast as possible, you're missing out.

  • If the services weren't preparing for absurd traffic for this game, they were downright negligent.

  • No.

  • Publishers would still have to distribute authentication keys directly, no? That would cause the same problem here since the storefront is only dealing with the transaction side of things. Downloading is a separate server (I would assume).

  • From what I hear, that applies equally to coders.

  • Are you suggesting that's not part of game development?

  • I'm not really sure what you think is gained by treating the hard work of talented coders as "weak" or "a side project". Small teams dream of making something like HK. These are hall-of-fame level devs that will be remembered for ages. They deserve more respect than that.

  • *3 people (used to be 4). Not that that's less impressive. It's just worth it to be accurate.

  • Providing access to something the federal government won't is one thing. Doing so in spite of a federal ban is another. I wonder how this alliance would plan to deal with the latter, as it seems more and more likely.

  • but I also feel kind of bad for the devs

Why? They chose the price. They obviously think this is better than a $60+ price tag for a reason.

*Out of curiosity, I checked the HK release price and it was $15 USD in 2015, which, adjusted for inflation, is ~$20 today. So this is a pattern with their games.

  • Ah, yeah, I totally misread those screenshots. My mistake. Still not good, though. I take back that YDI, but yeah, not surprised they're getting ghosted after all that.

  • The latest series was quite good, imo.

  • What second coming? Terraria still has another update in the pipe.
