  • Exectly my thoughts recently! My smartphone is starting to show some problems with its screen and it's a Xiaomi device which makes it very hard/unpleasant to get root access to reinstall the OS (you have to download a windows app and use it to share your data and reasons for voiding your contract by asking to get root access) so I thought maybe there are non-touchscreen smartphones and when I tried looking for one I only got dumb phone suggestions and I realized that such a phone would have to have a specific version of Android that is not designed around touchscreen technology. I'm not sure what I want, but the options seem to be polar extremes without a middle ground option, something between a smartphone and a dumbphone that will be helpful in detoxifying from doom scrolling and yet still usable for productive activities.

I really hope that in the near future we'll see some change in the direction towards smartphones that are not made only for watching videos, playing games, but to some combinations of useful ideas from both dumb and smartphones, like having a decent screen to be able to use maps and with also a "mechanical" keyboard or smth. But then again physical keys will have problems like if they would be made from cheap plastic, there always will be downsides...

  • Same here for the past few weeks. It's really hot and humid, I'm having hay fever, my kitten keeps waking me up, can't do anything during the day with all the brain fog and fatigue, can't fall asleep at night. Yesterday fell asleep during the day for unknown period for the first time in years, felt so much worse. They say it's the hottest year again and also the peak of solar activity

  • (-_- )

  • Maybe they mean literally the body composition of a fetus when it starts to grow as it feeds off via placenta, like it literally gets 100% of the mass from the mother's organism

  • Bodhi linux is ubuntu/debian based (but no snaps out of the box) and is good for older hardware both because it is lightweight and because it has support for 32 bit architecture, but it comes bundled with chromium not firefox, but you can easily install ff (or even better librewolf) and remove chromium.

Also there are bsds - I don't know about Bottles and Inkscape but you might be interrested to try out NomadBSD which is for USB boot but can also be installed on hardware, it is freebsd based and comes bundled with FireFox+UBlockOrigin (altho it's an older version you'll need to update the packages)

  • You can watch Lost Highway whenever you want to see Bill Pullman play sax and enter the void. Also there is a little obscure thing called Showgirls redux - someone reedited the whole Showgirls movie to soundracks from Lynch's movies, it is incredible: https://vimeo.com/499554519?share=copy

    Edit: added the link

  • They are referring to the original software and protocol of Soulseek not the slskd one in the link, no?

  • Any Linux distro is best for gaming if you're brave enough. There's a video on yt of a guy playing Wrath Aeon of Ruin on steam on OpenBSD machine (on hw, not vm), anything is possible

  • Try Bodhi Linux - you can burn it to CD/USB or copy it on a Ventoy USB stick to test before installing and it is available for 32 bit systems
