  • I think it's a "don't interrupt when the enemy is hurting itself" situation.

  • Cities Skylines for me. I don't play it often because I will get sucked in and come to at 3am, realizing that I've not eaten in 16 hours and my traffic isn't any better.

  • Now remember that Carter wanted better mental healthcare, and Reagan nixed it

  • Growing up in Oklahoma, my grandfather ran a humidifier in the winter, and a dehumidifier in the summer. Even with a HVAC system, he'd have to dump out the dehumidifier every other day.

  • If a right wing party uses leftists ideology in education as an excuse to not fund education, make it work so there is no argument to be made.

The problem is that our right wing thinks that basic facts are 'left wing ideology' and we can't "make it work".

Like, I grew up in a conservative state, with an education that stripped out everything they complained about, and we didn't even cover reproduction in high school biology because the right doesn't want sex-ed. Nevermind that kids were banging in the bathrooms, we couldn't learn about mitosis because it might lead to impure thoughts.

What sort of compromise would you even suggest with that?

Edit: I had a girl in my senior class that was pregnant with her third kid, and she literally didn't understand why she kept getting pregnant and actually thought god was sending her babies so she'd be a great mom.

  • Oh shit, I didn't know I could get $250/mo to post on lemmy. Where do I sign up?

  • I got banned from Witches vs Patriarchy because I got into an argument with somebody who was saying only bottom surgery counted as gender affirming care. My stance was that top surgery is also gender affirmative, but the mods said thats transphobia. I don't get it.

    Edit: accidentally a word

  • I feel that calling them 'big tent' is both correct and incorrect, depending on definitions. My parents were tea partiers, so I got a real up-close look at it.

You are correct about needing lockstep with the agenda, but missing the part where they didn't care so much about your past actions. They Big Tent in the "well, you might have voted Dem before, but now you're with us now, so you're cool" sort of way.

  • A million monkeys on typewriters is old news. Now we're gonna teach a million starlings to play back the entire bee movie.

  • I thought we were aliens

  • My video card deffo heats up more when watching youtube over peertube. I'm pretty sure they're using my graphics card for upscaling.

  • Either get rid of it or make every romance option open to PCs regardless of character creation options.

I dunno what you're saying about the Sims tho, the last time I did romance in the Sims I was killing all my spouses to collect types of death. Far more interesting than the average romance option in games.

  • Back when I was a kid, my family's church used the 'god cares for the sparrows' verse to push prosperity gospel. They're "taking care" of the poor and widowed by providing them a path to god's grace, which is inseparably coupled with financial security. If you're going to church and not rich, they say you're still too sinful.

  • Yeah, my pharmacy didn't stock doxepin when my doctor trialed it for insomnia, and that's just a normal antidepressant. It's not one of the ones commonly prescribed, so there'd be no sense in stocking it just to gather dust.

  • We’re talking about middle aged and older people who have had the time to learn.

To expand on this. It usually just looks like they've had the time to learn.

I also was raised conservative, my mentally ill stepfather was seduced by a borderline cult of a church, so I was in deep deep.

It takes so much out of you. Being that religious is literally exhausting and takes up all the available time people would have otherwise had to learn. I'm talking church three times a week, plus home church meetings, all full of propaganda about how demons lurk behind every corner and the only people you can trust are the people running the church. They've got it intentionally set up so that you are drowning in fear, and the only lifelines you trust are pure fantasy.

    It's insidious.

  • What do you mean 'why automatic'? Does Canada not automatically start applying laws when they're passed?

  • But muh division

  • Evil doppelganger

  • but I’m not trying to accomplish anything

This is the problem. Co-conspirators don't grow on trees, and protests are for networking because online chatter is too obvious. If you're going to protests, but not trying to accomplish anything by doing it, you're doing it wrong.
