  • Navaan is the 'doctor' here. She was first seen in the virgin town for the purpose of luring virgins out so the vampires could eat them, but she's claimed to be a doctor a bunch since then. She's also claimed to be other things, too. I think I remember her pretending to be a detective?

    For the purposes of this comic, she's acting like a doctor again.

  • The recurring doctor character was listening to the blue-haired person's stomach and there were people inside. The people are fighting, but it's a fun, dramatic, miniseries-style fighting, so even though the blue-haired character is having stomach pain, the doctor doesn't want to cure them just yet.

    Since they were too busy observing the drama in the blue-haired character's stomach, the fighting which was causing the pain progressed, and killed the blue-haired character. The doctor is equating this with having your favorite miniseries cancelled.

    ...It's kind of obscure, but I enjoyed it. All my favorite shows get cancelled, too.

    People on the internet will argue about anything, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. I get that you're trying to stir up a specific type of person, so you can antagonize them, and I respect that, but you can't assume anything you say will go uncontested.

    It's smart to pick the fight you want to have, but you don't even have to try that hard. And there will be lots of places on the internet where people, even ones who agree with you, aren't trying to see reminders of the kind of stupid shit that exists in this world. That's okay! You can't spend every minute of your day engaging with assholes like your post might have attracted! It's bad for the long-term health.

That's not stirring the pot, that's normal community engagement. (It would be stirring the pot if she had engaged with the topic, and not the mod action. Big diff.)

    I really didn't want to actually post a response here but your mugging for the audience, "hey look at this comment!" behavior is such a pet peeve of mine. If you're going to accuse Ada of being a zionist, accuse her. If you're going to complain about the mod action, do that. But "here's a quote from someone else, and I'm going to side-eye the situation" is so... gutless, and adds nothing.

    Other people reporting them for being rude, while they're arguing with you, doesn't actually support your action. I know it feels like it's not fair that a regular user can argue with you, and you're supposed to take it, but that comes with the territory of being a mod.

    If someone is tilting you, or annoying you, or arguing and you are making no progress, you need to learn to disengage and move on. You don't need to reply to someone just because you believe they're wrong. People will always be wrong on the internet.

    You stop replying.

    It's that simple. If they're arguing in bad faith, if they're a troll, if they're a person who's unstable who's fighting because they get a kick out of it, all these things have the exact same result.

    A fire starves without oxygen. Stop feeding the person by replying to them, and they'll often fade right out. I do it constantly. (Though I've been known to engage when my ADHD is acting up. Or when I hyperfocus on providing data in my replies.)

    It's so insane to me that people have forgotten this, or they just choose to ignore it. Tell the person you're arguing with that you clearly don't see eye-to-eye, and you're not enjoying the discussion, so "feel free to reply, but I won't be answering." Done. The argument ends. If the other person replies lots of times, acts up, starts fighting other people, it proves they're a problem person. If they let it die, as most people tend to, then who cares? No further action needed.

    Only because, as a mod, you don't just ban someone because they keep arguing with you. On dbzer0, we have the disengage rule- if mods want to ban someone for arguing, they should implement that.

  • So I took it for a little while for my blood sugar. (I'm a non-diabetic hypoglycemic, and it doesn't just 'smooth' glucose for people with diabetes- it smooths it for anybody who could use it for that. I'm off of it now because it's so goddamned expensive.)

    Lemme say... It's such a miracle drug, and improves so much stuff, that I'm seriously waiting to find out that it turns us all into spider mutants or something, because even if I found out I'll turn into a spider when I'm 60, I'd still take it. It's that fuckin' amazing.

    Absolutely batshit that they've invented a drug so good, almost everybody wants to be on it.
