Good Lord, i’m not sure you understand my position at all. I immigrated to the U.S. from a 3rd world country. You have no idea how privileged the USA is. My family and I were at the bottom 50% of the FPL. Because of the graciousness of the federal government’s grants, I was able to get through college, work in research, and attend medical school. None of that exists where i come from. We are pissing the blessing of a working democratic system away in favor of turning it into yet another authoritarian camp.

I am honestly ready for all the torture Trump will give us. Let people remember what a Trump presidency was like. We are completely at his mercy, and I hope that the GOP gets the karma they deserve for supporting the not-so-figurative anti-Christ.

I agree that YouTube is Google monopoly, but I I’ve been wondering… They handle massive amounts of data. Would any other non-trillion dollar company be even capable of storing, processing, and presenting videos on the same scale, with the same quality, and with what is arguably very good latency world wide?

What could competitors do to beat Google without hemorrhaging their money just trying the manage the overhead?

It’s terrifying for a field I am going to be entering. I keep getting told the same thing from colleagues, professors, doctors I shadow. They all have the same resounding opinion that the Healthcare system is completely broken. Equally important, they all also say that private equity is a fundemantal cause of many of the failings.

Self hosting FreshRSS allows me to curate shit I care about. Even better, it’s private aggregation. Sometimes though, I miss the conversation around these topics. For that, Lemmy exists.

So I was listening to a Bloomberg Tech Podcast about this. Someone from some random media group actually said “consumer demand for ad supported content over netflix’s usual high production value dramas is up”

For some reason, that statement was both incredibly threatening and incredibly ominous

I would laugh if only this wasn’t a terrifying plausibility. Imagine you have pneumonia and need a chest x-ray to confirm that was denied because you were out of network. Imagine there is no recourse because all customer service has been outsourcedto a very friendly chat bot who will kindly tell you ‘DENIED’ after arguing with it for 30 minutes.
