Don’t forget the current supreme court motto though: “rules for thee but not for me”. Only massive and rich corporations will be allowed around copyright rules, but you and I and indie and open source will be held to the letter of the law.

Plex has started to enshittify as well. I switched to jellyfin because Plex had features behind pay walls and kept going “oops I accidentally changed your settings so you have to look at the plex home screen with ads for our streaming service”.
Caltrian is not California High Speed Rail
Compression artifacting it looks like to me.
No shot 4 SSDs will be the same price as a HDD of the same capacity yet. HDD is still the king of GB/$.
If I’m wrong… Can you send me some links? I could use some cheap 8TB SSDs.
I agree with you, what we’ve been doing hasn’t worked. Allowing Reagan and Bush and Bush and Trump to get elected hasn’t helped anyone. You could argue Nader got GWB elected but cheating and the Supreme Court were a big part of that too. How different would our current politics be if we had a term or two of Gore instead of Bush? Hard to say. Maybe primary voters wouldn’t have felt like they needed to pick a “safe” neolib over a demsoc in 2016 if they could believe he’d be viable.
Posting memes on lemmy won’t change Kamala’s positions or strategies, but convincing “both sides” lemmy users how important it is to pick the better of two options could change things. Every time the left-leaning party loses due to lack of turnout (aka punishing them for not being left enough) they move right instead of left. The only way to move the country left is to do whatever you can to get the most left-leaning viable candidate elected. Over time this pushes the whole electorate left.
I mostly agree with you, especially point (1), but what are you talking about with “Hamas did genocide on Isreal last year”? They did a terror attack for sure, but that’s not genocide. Wiping out significant percentage of a population because of their ethnicity or culture is genocide (see what Isreal is doing in Gaza) and it takes months to years.
Bandcamp seems decent but it’s got a small and niche catalog.
Yeah you could probably find a path through New Mexico and Arizona that’s not too mountainous, like along I-10.
But really where the US “needs” more water is where all the farms are. The cities don’t use much in comparison. It’s just a lot in a small area compared to the farms distributed in the big valleys.
I’m sorry, are you saying that a pipeline from the great lakes to Los Angeles would have to go through less mountains than from British Columbia?
* gestures vaguely at the entire mountain west *
One of the concerns I would have with custom ROMs for TVs is that I think a lot of the image processing magic that makes the image look good on these high end displays is done in some proprietary method that the custom ROM wouldn’t be able to use. Either in software or in hardware.
The magic of the high end TVs isn’t actually in the panel itself as much as in the driving of the panel.
Cut your nose to spite your face then. You’ll keep paying for genocide even if you won’t “vote for it.”
The things you can do are support groups and politicians that will push the country in the direction you want it to move. Really think about what action (or inaction) does for the things that matter to you. You have an opportunity to do something to help reduce overall suffering and make the country and world a slightly better place.
So you have three options, all having a bad outcome on the most important thing you care about.
One of the options maybe has better outcomes on some other things you care about.
Another option has bad outcomes in almost everything you care about, plus maybe even a worse outcome to your most important thing.
The third option is to leave it up everyone else to pick between the first two.
I know what I’d pick, what will you do?
There’s no need to make these things Big Tech, so if that’s why you are opposed to it, reconsider what you are actually opposed to. This could be implemented in a FOSS way or an open standard.
So you not trust HTTPS because you’d have to trust big tech? Microsoft and Google and others sign the certificates you use to trust that your are sending your password to your bank and not a phisher. Like how any browser can see and validate certificates, any camera could have a validation or certificate system in place to prove that the data is straight from an unmodified validated camera sensor.
He’s already owned it for nearly two years. I’d definitely take the over on that bet. I just don’t see what Twitter could possibly do that they haven’t done already to kill it?
I get why ISP provided routers and some brands of mesh router would collect and sell data but what is it about “mesh” that is particularly bad here? I have a cheap TP Link router that is apparently mesh compatible but it seems like a traditional router in all the other way. Should I be concerned?
They may not be centerists when seen through that Overton window of the USA in 2024, but in terms of the modern political spectrum they definitely are. There’s barely a social policy they have that isn’t already enacted for decades in more progressive countries and states.
That’s not really true. Mostly it’s him struggling to describe all the ways that he’s been one of the better progressive presidents despite having a completely non functional congress and outright hostile court. The only message that sticks is how awful Trump is because it’s easy to say and understand, and is obviously true to some and obviously false to others.
Again the polls seemed to be OK. I need to have the article ready with the headline “We are a normal polling error away from a landslide victory for either candidate”.
