No mention of Qi2. Any reason why we aren’t seeing more adoption of it?
Genius Bar
Yep. Connect using Bluetooth or via a USB dongle/dock.
On-device stuff? Sure I’ll take it. But not ones that connect online.
Especially since Apple doesn’t paywall basic health features behind a subscription.
Disappointed to see the dumb Fitbit Premium subscription carry on. Too pricey.
Targeted advertising is a huge no. No more of that.
Static advertising I can accept, but then who’s responsible for vetting ads? I don’t want scams displayed everywhere.
Devs definitely need ways to support themselves and sustain development. I’ve shared this screenshot from the app Secure Tether before:
I like to chip in a few bucks to my most used apps/services that are donationware, but after all the middlemen take their cut, the devs are left with peanuts. This IMO is the biggest hurdle when it comes to online monetization. A less expensive way to donate will certainly help.
Additionally, there are people who cannot or will not pay for apps, and I don’t want to exclude them from being able to use an app/service they need.
Monetization like how Reddit Gold was and how Discord Nitro is are some of my favorites. Few extra perks and cosmetic features for paying users. Free users are still able to use the main product at no cost and you can gift them Gold/Nitro if they aren’t able to purchase it themselves. I don’t know how that would translate into an app store model though.
I’m not sure if mods are a proper criteria when it comes to comparing Lemmy and Reddit. The audience is mostly the same and Lemmy doesn’t automatically make people/mods better or worse.
Also, you forgot one major point: API! I get to use and support my third party app of choice Sync here on Lemmy which was killed off by Reddit.
The moment they fix the search, fix their recommendations, stop wasting money on junk projects like games and allow me to completely disable Shorts, I will resubscribe to YT Premium.
If you’re into daily word/puzzle games that tickle your brain, I have a few communities to suggest!
Slightly off topic, but starting 2025 they’re going to stop providing quarterly subscriber numbers to focus on “other metrics” related to revenue and growth.
Indeed, but you miss out on the etched glass if you’re into that.
Weird. No paywall showed up for me.
I would’ve shared the paywall-free link but the page doesn’t load properly. I’ve screenshotted it and uploaded it here: https://imgur.com/a/JRDdBl4
Spending an unhealthy amount of time in Dicey Dungeons currently.
Apparently it still works. Came across a Short talking about it.
It’s 50% off right now.
The simple reason is because I got a lengthy free trial for it (saving me money on the Tidal sub) and then stuck around.
Apple Music was hot garbage when I started using it but over the months of my trial it improved tremendously - to a point where there isn’t much difference between it and Tidal. App performance is good now, it provides song recommendations for your playlists, many bugs I was facing have been fixed.
The Android Auto experience is better for me compared to Tidal, it has Shazam integration (Spotify does too, Tidal doesn’t) and it has many of the Japanese city pop songs I like that Tidal was missing.
I can always jump ship if needed. Services like Soundiiz and TuneMyMusic make it pretty easy.
Interesting. I wasn’t aware that they weren’t profitable.
Funny enough, right after your comment I got recommended this video on YouTube talking about the points you mentioned: https://youtu.be/yDWgOwb8kj4
Upgraded to Android 15 with no issues on my 6a, but stuff like this is concerning.
